Biography

Alisa Apreleva (Tatiana Kolomeytseva) is a Russian-American singer, composer, poet. She was born April 26th 1982 in a small town of Nevinnomyssk, Russia. Alisa performs since 1988: as a singer of children’s pop-music ensemble “A + B” (Ivanovo, Russia), member of children’s classic choir of the music school named after A. Skryabin (Moscow, Russia), pianist, composer, poet. In 2001 Alisa started to perform as a singer-songwriter, using guitar to accompany herself. During years 2002-2006 Alisa was a leader of her own band – “Heavy Water Factory” (“Fabrica Tyazholoy Vody”). In 2003-2004 Alisa was an actress with the “Tample” music theater (playing the allegoric character of the Hundred-Year War in the rock opera “Joahn d’Ark”).

In 2003 Alisa graduated cum laude from the Lomonosov Moscow State University - the most prestigious university of Russia – with Master’s Degree in Linguistics and Teaching and entered the post-graduate school. During her third year in the University, Alisa, unbeknownst to her parents, entered a music college to study contemporary vocals. Alisa’s strong-willed parents were point-blank against their daughter’s desire to become a professional musician. But, having tried several professions (including journalist, a forensic linguist, a middle-school teacher and a glamour magazine editor), Alisa decided to dedicate her life solely to music.

In 2004 Alisa moved to Seattle, USA. Since then she lives between two continents and writes songs in two languages. Having tried cello for the first time in December 2005, and self-taught since then, Alisa now is getting more and more popular around the globe as a “Russian singing cellist wonder”.

Created especially for Alisa’s breathtakingly beautiful voice, her songs are the strange, atmospheric mixture of classic, rock, free jazz, ethnic and sacred elements, which takes you beyond the point of just listening to the music and gives you a chance to go for a mystical journey toward true yourself.

Alisa's most recent project includes compositions for voice and three celli, one of which plays Alisa herself. Named "The Apreleva Trio" (see video), the project features two accomplished cellists Peter Akimov and Peter Suraykin, who are well known for their rock+cello experiments.

Currently Alisa is getting her second degree from the Berklee College of Music (Boston, MA), majoring in "Music Therapy". Alisa has two kids - Matvey, born in 2007, and Anna, born in 2008.
