α60 combines elements of Electro, Italo-disco, and classic soundtrack music to create a unique and haunting take on synth pop. Synthetic instrumentation and prefabricated drum patterns build up a sinister and occasionally melancholy musical atmosphere.
In the space of five tracks myriad electro-music references are condensed into a lean pop format - from the driving, Italo-Electro of ‘Exit Ramp’, the library-pop of ‘Starliner Island’ to the cinematic menace of ‘Arc-Light’ and ‘Theme for a European Film’. The ‘Themes From Utopia’ EP comes across in places as a soundtrack to a re-imagined film adaptation of Ballard’s ‘Crash’, composed by Goblin and ‘Radioactivity’-era Kraftwerk.
α60 is the alias of UK producer Richard Harding, who has previously released tracks as Galaxaphone on Fluid Ounce Records. This is his first release as α60, and the first release for new label Cults of Brasilia.
