For Ned’s Atomic Dustbin, God Fodder was that album, their Indie Classic – the one that catapulted them out of Student Union bars the length and breadth of Britain into the skies, crossing the indie-rock globe at a frightening pace.

Released on April Fool’s Day 1991, the record sold over 60,000 copies in its first week of release in the UK alone, and thudded into the album chart at #4. With MTV catching on fast, God Fodder shifted 400,000 copies in the U.S.A.

Written and road-tested ad infinitum over 2 years, God Fodder delivered on the promise that their live following had recognised in them. It furnished the band and following alike with a soundtrack snapshot of the best days of their lives, a time they all hold very dear.

So what is it with Ned’s Atomic Dustbin and food?
It was a very hungry band and manager who sat around the table to discuss a title for their forthcoming debut album in that tearoom in Buckley, North Wales, back in 1991. One of the boys (can’t remember who) said of the teacake he’d just demolished “that was food of the gods that was!”, “God Fodder was it...?”

Strangely enough it must have been food foremost in their minds when they’d named their debut single The Ingredients EP just months earlier. They were a band used to putting petrol before hunger until that first EP had flown off the shelves into thousands of indie kids’ bedrooms and not, thankfully, into the loft space they’d all set aside in their naive pessimism.

The rest as they say...
Fast forward to 2009 and now reformed, Dan, Mat, Alex, Rat and Jonn - all 5 original members of Neds have decided, following December 2008’s rammed-out Astoria Re:United show, it’s time to celebrate the record that made it all happen.

With a May 23rd Re:United hometown show fast approaching sell-out, it seems that the fans are still hungry for God Fodder – looks like Neds still have a healthy appetite too.

Neds will play God Fodder from start to finish in London, the city where it was recorded, on Saturday 19th December 2009 at 02 Shepherd’s Bush Empire. Needless to say, Neds will be playing the rest of your faves too. This will be Ned’s only other club show of 2009.

Oh, and rumour has it that a classic design might reappear at the merch stand....

From 9.00am on Monday 9th March, Ned’s fans will be able to buy a limited V.I.P. Party Ticket on pre-sale (check myspace & facebook for details & link). The V.I.P. Party Ticket gets you a limited signed poster plus a laminate pass for the after show party at the venue where the band will be Djing afterwards.

Tickets go on general sale at 9.00am on Friday 13th March.
