Brighton Noise are extremely proud to present the winners of their release of the year in 2014, Esben and The Witch, playing their first show in Brighton since they moved to Berlin in early 2015.

"Brighton based post-punk, post-rock originalists Esben and The Witch are one of the most restlessly creative bands in the country. Continually looking to tread new ground, their last record A New Nature saw the band leave label Matador and crowd fund a new album recorded by Steve Albini. We said “it feels like a long time since a Brighton band released a record this essential.” We stick by that. They are also an amazing live act; expect tinges of Godspeed You Black Emperor, Swans, The Jesus Lizard and PJ Harvey."

------------------

Abi Wade is a musical collaboration between limbs, strings and vocal chords. The cello is the backbone to her songs, however, the Brighton based musician is no ordinary solo act and uses her instrument in a unique way; using it as a percussive instrument; hitting it with sticks and beaters while plucking and bowing it, often simultaneously. In addition to playing the cello in this unconventional manner, she also sings and uses a cajon and tambourine on each foot to become the ultimate one woman band.

So far she has toured the UK & Europe with Patrick Wolf, played festivals such as End of The Road, The Great Escape and Wilderness, sold out her debut EP, released music on the label set up by Esben & The Witch’s Daniel Copeman, with whom she also records with and played shows with the likes of CocoRosie, Dan Mangan, Other Lives & Deptford Goth. Her music has also been used on MTV series ‘Awkward’ and Cinemax series ‘Banshee’.

--------------------------

Opening the show will be Merlin Tonto, fresh from their stand out performance at our Day One Festival and featured in our 'Ten to Watch' article

"Merlin Tonto are the kind of band you could listen to for hours, days even without needing a break. The building blocks are relatively simple, bass and drums effortlessly lock into steady, funky groove that mutates through the course of their songs. The solid base should be no surprise; the two players anchored the much missed Cinemascopes. Owen, the keys supremo of Speak Galactic and Japanese Sweets, liberally applies his magic on top of these jams leading to an experience that is uplifiting, entrancing and danceable. Their debut mini-album Tano Dragon, which snuck out at the beginning of last year sounds like someone smuggled some outstanding E’s into early seventies, Cologne. We are promised new material shortly."
