Description
Formed '76 in Barnsley (!) Saxon were NWOBHM front-runners and had 8 UK Top 40 albums, (four of those in the Top 10) as well as Top 20 singles. Establishing themselves as one of Europe's biggest metal acts, they also conquered Japan/USA, sold more than thirteen MILLION albums worldwide and influenced many bands such as Metallica and Megadeth.
Guitarist Graham Oliver and bass player Steve 'Dobby' Dawson were Saxon founder members and joined here by Haydn Conway, Paul Oliver and John 'Wardi' Ward. O/DS was formed in '95 and were embroiled in a bitter legal battle with singer Biff Byford, eventually losing rights to the sole name 'Saxon'.
