I don't participate in any forum discussions for years now, social media kind of killed all that for me. I barely even scrobble the music I listen to lately as I travel a lot more (well, not right now) and it's all a bit on the go. If MA is still alive and kicking, I guess it's a good thing if people find the time.

I didn't even know such lists exist, goes to show what little time I spend here :D The pandemic situation hit everyone one way or another, although I really can't complain in how things are handled in Canada now. The bigger stress for me was that it basically happened during the second half of my pregnancy so I had to be even extra careful on top of that, took quite the draconian measures. But everything went fine and now I have a beautiful daughter, I myself recovered in no time and I'm eager to start working on some new projects as soon as possible. That pretty much sums it up. You stay safe! :)

Indeed. I'll be seeing them next year here and there, as soon as I recover after spring :) Although I'm not fond of the last album, their concerts are always worth attending and they've upped their live production game even more nowadays.

To summarize, I moved away from the 9 to 5 as it was high time to stop working for other people, started my own thing with photography and I'm glad to say it's going very well and expanding surprisingly fast, thanks to which I'm also travelling quite a lot - mostly for commissioned work, some special contracts here and there, the occasional gig, etc. It's a business I'm working on with my husband and it's definitely something that my son can also get involved in with time if he gets the hang of it, he's already been in several countries even though he's like less than half a year old :D I'm gradually working towards adding cinematography to the list, which requires a completely different mindset, not to mention gear, but we'll get there. I'm constantly listening to music but I really can't say that about scrobbling it :D How about you? Feel free to share :)

Hey! Sorry about the delay, I've been meaning to get back to you but I'm still dealing with a severe jetlag. Getting better but I still don't know whether I'm coming or going :D This whole thing takes a 'little' sacrifice. In any case, StS was nicely melancholic but somehow I couldn't really focus on it back then, so I'll have to give you an update later. Beast in Black is decently cheesy as expected, sometimes I play a track or two if I need to make sure I'm awake, working during the very early hours :D The guys have a nice thing going and they'll exploit that sound to oblivion, that's more than obvious, so the question is if that's enough for you. I certainly can't listen to them for long but I'd occasionally throw in a track or two for the modernized retro fun of it. Rotting Christ is kind of weird - while it's in no way bad and I like the comeback to Aealo's sound, they seem a bit stuck, ironically in their own niche that sounds unique. No surprises overall.

If I'm in BG at all at the end of the year, I'll see them with Moonspell in November. Moonspell will be here during a summer festival too but the question about my location still stands. Something to look out for is Myrath and ISON, the latter being the only thing I'm genuinely excited about. Check out the teaser if you haven't yet, I for one know I won't get to hear anything better throughout the year. Other than that, I didn't realize how power-starved I was until I heard Bloodbound's promo, it's like listening to an oddball mix of Sabaton, Nightwish and Maiden. Add in the Game of Thronesque concept and you get an album you didn't know you actually needed to hear :D Also, Delain's EP was surprisingly refreshing after Moonbathers, so that's good news. I'll write back regarding Resist.

Good :) It ain't bad to do back to basics :D About Resist, apart from those 3-4 songs, it's all over the place and yes, the Holy Ground lyrics are more than mindlessly forced, not to mention the whole concept of that song is getting so old. All things considered, I should probably be times more affected by the album but I just discarded it with a shrug. The less passion musicians put into their music, the easier for me to not even be bugged about it. Either that or music in general is just less and less impressive, even when it comes to letdowns.

Wouldn't argue there. :( I do, however, have a massive sword at home, almost taller than me. Might as well take it with me on Manowar's farewell gig. Then we'll talk epicness ;)

What happened to you? :) I'm quite ok, traveling, developing, can't really complain :) I'll be documenting Myrkur's concert in London on the 18th December which is a bonus to a nice and long family visit there :) Passed by The Netherlands again, 2019 is shaping up to be even more intense as I'll be criss-crossing between continents quite often. Crazy jetlag and exhaustion but it's well worth it :) Conception is back in full force, the EP sounds like Flow with better production, hence the high value for me. I l the atmosphere, the mellow stuff, Roy's voice is like he hasn't been gone at all. WT is about 50/50 which is well below their standards. It has good stuff but also quite a lot I'm not dying to get back to. At least I'll catch the US tour next year, hopefully they'll be back in shape by then. Soilwork is ok, takes a step back to The Ride Majestic which is still fine, so if you enjoy that one you'll like it. It's not as immediate but they still did a good job.

Wow, it sounds like you had quite a year so far! :D I agree with what you said about Conception; the atmosphere, the diversity among songs, Roy's amazing voice which I missed so much, and might I say, hasn't lost anything. WT's Raise your banner is quite decent, but the other 2 singles are a crap-fest. Seriously, I couldn't listen to the Reckoning more than one time. Hopefully they pass by this region during their tour. Soilwork's The ride majestic wasn't all that, but still a solid effort, so yeah I think I will be happy with the new one as well. What about Evergrey? I didn't know they had a new album, I've been really out of it these past couple of months! You know, I thought the same about Kamelot and WT, and they both managed to disappoint me this year :D I agree about Harakiri, Orphaned Land (Who I went to their concert here in Izmir, and it was awesome), ISON , Møl and Amorphis.

Definitely gonna check out Michael Romeo's new album since you like that much. As I said before, my radar is quite off these days when it comes to new 'good' albums and discoveries in general :) I think I stopped listenin to Avantasia's new efforts after I listened to 'Ghostlights' for the first time, which wasn't all bad, but kinda made me get bored with them already :/ Hopefully, the new one is somehow better in that aspect.

On top of that (even though it's a promo), the production sounds very weird when you compare it to any other WT album - I like that you get to hear enough details but on the lighter parts it's more flat, mechanical, Sharon's vocals are pushed behind a wall of keys. And yeah, don't expect to hear a guitar solo other than in Raise... In any case, I'll have a tough time compiling a top releases list. What impressed you throughout the year?

I had this Feeling this album will bring us another hydra but with cheaper uptempo production and it seems I was correct .since The UN album WT kept on going more and more towards american style then The topical European bombastic sound That I'm not a hater of but it just doesn't fit WT style of songs . The songs are Good as always but with very unfitting style and thus those new good songs get weaker and soulless. This year I feel martin of Sirenia ,tried to push himself out of the narrow comfort room of his ...by refreshing Sirenia with better production. He added Bass to the music finally also better focus on Emma 's ability as a singer:sometimes she is theatrical at times she is operatic, so The new album of sirenia was good thing this year .Lacuna coil Live album also Evanscance The syntheses live album are both very good albums by live standards. on The syntheses live some songs are better in orchestral terms than those on syntheses The album .all in all it is boring year :P

Synthesis live sound is much better produced although being live CD with also more emotional approach from amy but the biggest difference is The orchestra it sound much clear and real.about EV shows I find them dreadfully boring in the last years no creativity or evolving at all.sure I will attend one if I could but I wish if amy start working less lazy on EV. I see all of this resist album campaign is so poor in all ways,it has no energy,no excitement,no atmosphere,no beauty.I feel like if they just wanna throw it out in the air and say bye bye like saying look fans we are just replica of WT now.this is my first time really feel no passion for WT release since 2005.and BTW I'm having this weird odd mix too.Im being in love recently with BTS and BlackPink although I listen to pop from time to time but not Kpop in full force ever.I dunno why but I found them really different but with true artistic passion I think something music in general lacks now day.

Indeed :) Funny thing, I'm running super late publishing my review on this one but I've been preoccupied professionally, so there's that. I like it, can't say it's anything new but I've missed the band so much that I'm more than ok with it. Musicianship is on point as always. What I'm most happy about is that Freddy's political career doesn't seem to intervene with them making music, hopefully that won't change with time. Did you like the album?

Same here with Behemoth, at first I was like, "this had nothing on The Satanist". Then again, it's a completely different beast, you can clearly hear how much they've matured as a band as well as individually. Hopefully I'll get to take some concert photos of them this year, their staging leaves everyone else way behind. Talk about perfectionism.

Hey! I'm more than good, busy with the motherhood, preparing some trips and general relocation with my husband and the little one :) How (and where) are you? How's life? Kamelot is bad, and I'm being generous here. Considering their 'mediocre' used to be above the average 'good' of so many other bands, the album is just utterly forgettable. I got it sent by the label the other day and I don't know what to do with it, shoved it somewhere without even opening :D Didn't like Kalmah much, it had some nice moments but the overall experience and even production didn't click on me. Still better than the last one though! There have been several very strong releases in 2018 so far but the gap between them and the rest is just too wide. Share your thoughts :)

Hi! :) I didn't love it immediately (just like the single, their typical hit) but it grew on me rather fast. Mostly, it took its time as it's probably the most unconventional and complex record with Tomi at the helm. There's a lot going on, from progressive moments to more folky parts and even blackened stuff (mostly in the vocals here and there). The sound is very typical for Tuonela due to the repeating guitars and stuff, which I absolutely adore. It's refreshing to hear something out of the box from a band that's been going strong for so many years. I'll review it soon. Did you like The Bee?

True. I can't say which one I like more, M or its follow up. The whole soundscape feels like a beautiful, airy soundtrack, something I can listen to day in and day out.

Nice to hear :) I'm struggling with the heatwave, the same that hit Italy, aside from that I'm buzzing around clinics for check ups and regularities each month. Paradise Lost ain't bad but I definitely need a certain mood for it too. Can't say I've heard many good releases this year, waiting for SepticFlesh.

Did I get it right? :D Hope you're fine and everything's going on the best way ^_^ Anyway, I had a listen to Medusa and, considering my relationship with the band, I've found it nice. As you said, a certain mood is needed to listen to them. And, well, I also must agree when you say that this year has been quite poor in great releases. I've liked a lot the latest Solstafir album musically speaking, even though that "singer" should really consider the idea of getting a new job. SepticFlesh sounds promising, the single is really good. The new Anathema, though, has been really disappointing. At least to me. Don't know whether it's me leaning towards the apathetic side or the bands actually losing their grip. :D

A little guy is on his way, expecting him in late November :) Judging by the head banging, punches and kicks I'm receiving when I listen to music, he will get into the scene one way or another :D He's way more calm while listening to soundtracks, which I spin very often. So far it's going great - of course, you have to get used to all the changes in your body (and eating habits) but so far it's been a very smooth journey. I met with a friend from San Francisco and a girl from Alaska last week - I've been in touch with him as a reviewer for over 10 years now so it was cool to catch up. They went through fests in Portugal, Spain, Hungary, last visited the Chezch Brutal Assault before passing through here to go to Summer Breeze in Germany, and off to the Norwegian Prophecy fest :D One hell of a trip and my husband and I had a great time talking about it all, aside from the usual friendly talk. I'd love to do a trip like that one day, given I have the resources.

With being absent that much from Last.FM I'm yet to go thorough some messages and shouts :D Anyway, thanks, and I really like your list as well :)
