Press releases from CBSi and Lastfm. Fred M., CBSi Exec, was quoted stating, "Lastfm only have paying subscribers in the high 5 digits." Versus millions of free members. Just search up press releases from CBS, CBSi and Lastfm and you will find plenty of numbers. Also look up CBS SEC filings, to see where the money and profit comes and goes. Believe they made 347 million of of advertising alone, in the first three quarters of 2010, while they didn't even make 3 million off of subscribers at Lastfm. They don't want us to subscribe - they want us to view the commercials ;-)

Have now read your link. Yes, it was only 2008 and the Last.fm strategy promised a bright new tomorrow. Oh and yes, according to the article the 30 sec preview didn't cut it then, and doesn't now!

Thanks for joining. Like I said although I think theoretically subscribers have more leverage, I don't necessarily want to make the group exclusive to subscribers. So even when your subscription runs dry, don't feel excluded. It's a numbers game both in terms of group members and finance. As well the points you make about the rhetoric are true imo.

Your avatar, still comes up as a subscriber! The reasons you state for stopping your subscription are exactly the things that have made me want to start a group which can pressurize Last.fm. I'm sure they are taking notice of the number of people who are stopping their subscriptions and it's something that scares them. I'm reminded though of the wasp that dies straight after it stings, it's a last resort that has power, but ultimately disempowers and disenfranchizes you. But I think as well there is a fundamental problem with Last.fm's customer relations, which requires feedback from a large concerned user group. The action of a lot of individuals acting alone, might have a cumulative effect, but their intentions might be misinterpreted or overlooked. Anyway thanks for your feedback it is much appreciated.

Yeah, I know all about Take Me Away, especially the Pin-Up girls remix, which is the ONLY version to own of that track. In fact, it even uses that Hot-Pants breakbeat, just like Warriors Dance. I'm not sure if that box set has that or the inferior original? They did some hideous "detroit" remixes a coupla years back - absolutely awful, and not a patch on the Pin-Up mix. Grrr!

By the way, if you like the cover art, there's a very nice animation that Tim did at the entrance to the Monkeyshine website, that we also have used at our Myspace where the monkey rolls his eyes, etc. http://monkeyshineonline.com Hope you check it out ;-D

Cover art for Monkeyshine was personally drawn by professional illustrator/singer/songwriter Tim Foley. See more of his illustration work at http://TimFoleyillustration.com Questions about techniques and software used might be better addressed directly to him at that site. And thank you for your kind comments!

I like your chimp. He looks very pleased....or possibly infected with rage and about to attack. But either way...he's quite cute. :)
