Well, I feel like an idiot for not seeing Swans when they were in Poland. Hm, so why have you changed your mind about DCD?

They came to Poland recently or are you talking about some years ago? With DCD, well, I've been listening to their records chronologically, and some of their later records I'm hearing for the first time, and at the moment I really appreciate the fact that they tried to recreate genuine Greek, Arabic and so on spirit in some of their songs, and can only imagine how interesting such an experience must have been live, especially in that venue I told you about. Also, I read somewhere that their live sound is much more percussive, which is another aspect I've started to appreciate more

I was at their concert last year and I can tell they sounded live very good, very professional, almost like you listened to their LPs. Some songs are obviously rearranged because due to certain limitations are not easy to play live, but they sounded good. And I think I told you it was a very profound experience to me, I felt the connection with them and for me it was one of the best concerts I've ever been to. Their music is very versatile, depending on which record you are listening to, their music is influenced by Christian liturgical music (The Serpent's Egg), medieval (Aion), Hispanic (some songs on Spiritchaser), Arabic, African (Spiritchaser again), Greek, Turkish (both on Dionysus), and so on and on. They often merge all those influences with one another to create one universal human music - to reflect on the universal beauty of music is the purpose, as Lisa once said during an interview.

Yeah it's nice, more like classical music than actual krautrock or rock. Reminds me of Popol Vuh, their later albums and the classical parts sound like Stravinsky sometimes. I will also listen to And the Waters Opened.

Well, back then I only had a problem with the way they sounded. All this new age stuff has always sounded very superficial to my ears. Back then I didn't know how to elaborate on that, but now I know it's because that movement, as well as pretty much every "spiritual" thing that appeared in the '50s and especially '60s (in the West), all these are in fact superficial, so it's only natural that it's translated into the music itself. Despite this, some of that oriental-influenced music doesn't sound bad (Love You To by The Beatles, for instance). But if you say that Hosianna Mantra sounds Christian, then I will give it a try! Maybe it was the product of the band really delving into our Christian tradition, which would mean that there's a chance it's not superficial. When I first tried listening to Popol Vuh, although never an atheist, I wasn't interested in religion and classical music that much, so perhaps I rushed and prematurely threw them in the same category as other new age groups?

When I first learned about Hosianna Mantra I read an interesting comment in the Internet about this music, somebody wrote that this is a very profound, spiritual journey through your inner self. And I totally dig this opinion. From my, and maybe mine only, perspective Hosianna Mantra is the end of music. It's like the final chapter of music. When I want to listen to a music that would take me to a place that nothing else could ever take, I listen to this album. That's why I called my account like this, to pay tribute to this album. I know that I may sound pretentious, but I don't care, and I don't tell everyone this is the best album in history. It's not the best. But for me it's the final station that music can take you. So, give it another try if you want. And listen to Nosferatu OST as well. Sometimes it's just like this, that certain music evokes some good feelings in you, that music perfectly clicks with you. I have similar feelings with DCD albums.

I see. It's interesting that after all these years you see the album in the same way. I will definitely give it another try! Also, who cares if you're being pretentious? Unless it's that kind of pretentiousness that is meant to make you seem smarter for the sake of it, pretentiousness is not an issue at all.

I am going to reply here because something went wrong when I tried to post in my shoutbox. The message I was trying to post was: "No, no, no, I didn't mean that you use tiktok! By "Russia itself needs Ukraine" I meant that a NATO expansion in Ukraine would endanger Russia's security - and while these were the very words Putin has used, he wouldn't be the only one who agrees with that. So even if he wasn't the president, Ukraine would have still been attacked. It's, if you will, part of the Russian political DNA: all countries formerly belonging to the Empire/USSR shall remain under our influence for ever

Out of those countries who would also be fucked alongside Romania and Poland in case NATO fails (UK, France, US, Germany), only Germany is not a nuclear power. What does Germany do in the current situation? Moving back and forth between going all-in in sanctioning Russia and pulling back a little bit. I'd say the nuclear powers will do just fine without NATO - it's the minor countries and the non-nuclear ones that have to worry

Occasionally I find myself revisiting old metal records that I used to listen to somewhat extensively during highschool and man... The majority of them bores me to death, really. Even the ones that were game-changing - because it's completely understandable to get bored by pornogrind albums, for instance, even as a metalhead, but I'm talking also about bands such as Dissection, Watain, Hellhammer, Suffocation, thrash bands and so on. I understand that highschool was the right period to listen to immature music, and that's exactly what I did, but on the other hand I can't figure out how did I manage not to get bored by metal. We tend to be much more easily bored and distracted when we are teenagers, yet I had the patience and will to sit through so many hours of boring music. Do you share the same thought when it comes to metal?
操作
回复

hosianna-mantra
I understand. You were a different man back in your teenage years and your taste was different. Now you're adult who gained a lot of life experience and listened to a lot of different music genres and bands. It's normal when you constantly discover better music that suits you even more, you finally learn that the music you used to listen is extremely inferior to what you listen now. I think as kids we were looking for passion, emotions, and even anger in music, now the relation became more subtle and personal, for example, when I listen to Gorecki's Symphony No. 3 or Tim Buckley's Song to the Siren I feel more connected to universal values than listening to any of Anathema or Katatonia's songs (now I consider most of the bands I used to listen lame). I watched a nice movie the other day, Beautiful Boy with Steve Carell and Timothée Chalamet about a boy who is addicted to hard drugs and his relation with his father. Great music is in that film and when I watched I knew all songs.

It is doable. I recommend creating another new last.fm account and merge scrobbles from all your accounts (I think you have, like 4 - the LA man account, jamesdean account, totoro account, this one, and azazel). I read about it because I wanted to do the same. You have to download an application, export the scrobbles from your account and import into another one. The thing is you can't do all at once. There is a limit of 2 or 3 thousand per day, which is problematic. Since I had 60k listenings on my previous account, it would take me 2 or 3 weeks to process everything. But it's not difficult and it's not a lot of work. You just have to know how to do it. Try to find something on the Internet. I don't remember where I found that application. But you may find posts on some forums.

Youtubers, on the other hand, earn more but being a successful Youtuber makes money requires you to be a certain type of person, which I am not, haha. So, yeah, playing video games in order to relax is my kind of thing. Like now it's 8:58 PM and I finally have some time to launch Mafia III.

Z takich rzeczy wolę raczej spokojniejszego post-rocka w wykonaniu GY!BE, Talk Talk, Slint, Bark Psychosis.

My thoughts exactly. I don't know why this album received so much praise and is regarded as the best album in music history by some radio personalities or reviewers. It's way too long and boring. I'm browsing rym and came across a thread about sell-out musicians/bands. Someone wrote a post containing the following sentences: "I congratulate every indie band/artist that survived the 2000s, because you couldn’t even license a song to a commercial or a teen TV show that people would call you a sell-out and Pitchfork would give you a bad review that could hurt and potentially kill your career. They don’t care if these people had debts, mortgage, parents to help; if they would invest the money on the new record, on tour, having more musicians playing arrangements and becoming a full-time band. I think in the 2000s there was a lot of weight on being indie and very little knowledge of the costs of being a full time independent musician." Man, it's both hilarious and annoying at the same time! Because the way I see it this user thinks that critics should care about the financial situation of the musicians they're reviewing. Perhaps even give them good reviews for encouragement.

I don't get it why people occasionally call musicians and bands "sell-outs". I don't see the point why somebody would do that. Apart from passion, it's their job, that's how they make money. There are artists who want to make a lot of money so they make very accessible but generic music and you can call them a "sell-out" but what for. I think the older I get the more I don't give a fuck. Youngsters are so emotional about it. Besides, those who yell the loudest are mostly phony hipsters and posers if you ask me.

While I agree with you, I must say that I still think there is such thing as selling out. For example, I know Lady Gaga used to play some rock-related music in her late teens-early 20s and then she switched to what you know... That is selling out: jumping on a trend in order to make money. I agree that it's no use to rant about it, but it helps to acknowledge it as it is, I guess, indicative of human greed.

Yeah, we had a 36m2 flat. One big room serving as a living room, office, dining room, and bedroom. Kitchen and bathroom were small too. We lived in a region of Poznan called New Town and the area was nice but mostly blocks of flats built in 1980 (ours was built in 2006), there were lots of green areas and we had a lake nearby so we really liked that district. Our flat was nice too, we hade a huge balcony but we tended to dry clothes in the bathroom. We had this extendable ceiling airer so it saved lots of space.

The cheapest option you can get in a city like Poznan is renting one room for 170 EUR. But you live with others. Those are usually 60-70m2 flats shared with 3-4 other people. Obviously you share a kitchen and bathroom. You want more privacy and you live with a partner, you may rent a studio apartment like we did - 400-500 EUR (including bills) depending on how big is the apartment and how many rooms it has. I heard that the prices are higher in Warsaw, but similar in Wroclaw, Krakow, and Gdansk (maybe a little bit higher). In Konin - the city I live next to now - has cheaper apartments, my friend rented a studio for 150 EUR but he knows the owner. But Konin is a shithole. More than 70k people living in this town but no decent jobs (almost no big companies, no intl corporations), a high unemployment rate. Poznan has one of the lowest unemployment rates in Poland, around 2% if I recall correctly. So you know, most of my friends fled from Konin to cities like Poznan, Wroclaw, or Warsaw.

Damn it, one room for 170 and you live with others. I shared places three times over the last few years, and the most I paid was 120 (170 at most with all the bills included). Usually you can get a two room apartment for 300 but there are even cheaper ones to be found. For instance, I shared a two room apartment with a friend of one of my classmates and we each paid 120 (170 at most with bills). This is the capital city. In other cities, such as my hometown, you can get a studio for as little as 100 eur.

Daj szansę i posłuchaj te trzy albumy: Późne królestwo, Cień chmury nad ukrytym polem oraz Duch tornada. Hmm, not really. I mean yeah, there's quite a few of that (alcohol, whores, drugs) to be found in their music, especially on Appetite, but they weren't writing about that like some of those glam metal bands did. On Appetite, they were talking about LA: the city and the lifestyle one eventually gets to live once they set foot in the depravity jungle that LA was/is. I look at the album as if it were a concept album about the mindset of someone seduced by LA. Take a look at the song Night Train: it sure does sound as if it glorifies drinking; except there's that one lyric which can totally slip the listener's ear ("I never learn"). To me, that song sounds exactly like what someone enamoured with alcohol would say, with that particular lyric representing either the still existing voice of reason from the back of the person's mind, or the mockery one would make of his friends and family's concerns about a dangerous behaviour ("Yeah, alright, so I never learn and gonna die, fuck off, man!")
操作
-

Or take a look at Mr.Brownstone, about heroin. The songs ends with Axl saying that he wishes he'd never met that Mr.Brownstone, aka the drug dealer. Then you have the song You're Crazy, which is Axl lamenting about some woman he fell in love with and who turned out to be a hoe who used him for her (physical) satisfaction. But I agree with you that most of their love songs and pretty much every single one of the ballads SUCK xD I could never describe you how much I hate November Rain.

Oh, and about their lives: I remember reading somewhere that, contrary to the appearances, they weren't the kind of band to put up with the groupies stuff. I believe it was one of their managers who said that? But anyway, I don't think I ever heard about Axl, who would be the most notorious of them all, right?, cheating on someone. Plus, there's a video made for one of their earlier songs that features some sexy women looking like strippers or something; every one of those women was in a relationship with someone from the band, so they weren't just some random chicks that they hired and then screwed. Damn it, I should be GNR's lawyer.

He wanted the country itself to look good, so he made sure that our industry and law system was highly functional.

No, I answered but then deleted it because I thought you might misunderstand what I wrote, and maybe I should use other words. I will answer later.

Also, I've been wondering; remember how I used to have a lengthy prog and psych phase? One that eventually came to an end as I switched to more aggressive and alternative sounds. Now, when I'm beginning to revisit some of the albums that I used to listen on a weekly basis, I'm noticing how different it is how I relate to them. For example, I no longer obsess over In The Court of the Crimson King, instead appreciating Red far more. Gentle Giant speaks to me now, while back then it pretty much bored the bejesus outta me. Black Sabbath's first record, which is influenced, even if only a little bit, by prog sounds tremendous. There's also bands like Tool, whom I used to hold in high regard. While I understand that my current perception is influenced by what else I've been dabbling in, I'd also say that distancing myself from this type of music (prog and psych) helped a great deal. Now, from what I can tell you never got too far; at least as far as KC goes, you've been constantly giving

Don't apologise to me, man. It's okay, really. I agree that I am radical and snobbish, but in the same spirit I'm gonna say that this is "the way" with serious things - and culture should be something serious and treated as such, especially in these times where there's all kinds of retarded 'movements' going on. The thing is that we're looking at difficult times ahead of us, on every layer of our existence

Yeah, I agree, high culture > low culture. Besides, I was recently browsing Facebook and somebody wrote a very long post on the same subject we discussed. How pop music devalued over time. Like, we had Phil Collins, Aerosmith etc. (I'm not saying their music is good, I'm paraphrasing the post), and now, there is Cardi B and the song WAP which is a hit nowadays, people love it. And speaking of songs like that (see the lyrics), I have the very same point of view that you have. That song is gross and for fucking monkeys.

Maybe Penderecki's Anaklasis and Threnody for the Victims of Hiroshima? I read somewhere that almost all of modern music recorded as soundtrack for horror movies is basically based on his work. Btw he passed away recently.

My old last.fm account is from 2009, so I guess we first 'met' a long time ago. 7-8 years might be. Now we are old!

It's a decent effort, I'd say. Only heard it about three times, and my opinion is the same as after the first audition. One thing I really admire at Bowie is how he rose up after the disastrous period that was the '80s and managed to make stuff that is at least decent. Usually once you fall down as a band, you stay down (The Stones, for instance)

Yeah, it seems like they slightly changed the interface (the top) and the browser, but I think the profile layout hasn't changed significantly. At least in my case. :D

wspominałeś kiedys o Kobayashim. Jesli lubisz japońska kulture i ich obyczaje to rob wszystko by dorwać ''Enjo'', ''Ognie Polne'', ''Odd Obsession'' i ''The Burnese Harp''. Pierwsze dwa tytuly to u mnie oceny 9+/10 i pelne chwaly miejsce najlepszych filmow jakie w zyciu widziałem.

Spojrzalem sobie na angielska Wiki i wyglada obiecujaco: "Drawing inspiration from early industrial and noise groups like Throbbing Gristle and Whitehouse, as well as from ambient musician Brian Eno, noise rock band Swans, post-punk innovators Killing Joke, fellow Birmingham heavy metal band Black Sabbath and a wide range of hip hop artists like Public Enemy, Eric B. & Rakim and Run-DMC, Godflesh were among the pioneers of both industrial metal and post-metal and are considered a significant experimental metal and extreme metal band." Same dobre rzeczy wymienione jako korzenie.
