those are interesting picks haha, actually i havent listened to les rallizes in a while, how nostalgic... i dont know many bands that fit that style, but ''citrus'' has a very lo-fi and japanese sound, check out their compilation ''Pits Are The Pits (25 Gold=Rare=Debris 1992-2000)''. perhaps chakra too? theyre one of the weirder new-wave or city pop acts from the era, but very fun. i love ''satekoso''

Hey! Thank you for thinking of me and coming back with recommendations! I am digging in to them right now... I had to skip right to サイドプロテア after reading your description of early capsule(my favorite) and simply tagging it as Shibuya-kei :D It is mega adorable music~ And I'm definitely liking the electronic-ness of it. I did listen to pitcher56 once upon a time, but it's been so long that listening to anything now may very well be like listening to it for the first time, since my memory is horrible, so it's totally cool they were mentioned too :D Do you listen to Metafive. At all, ever. They're loosely connected to Zazen Boys, you know lol See, Metafive is a Super Group, and one of its members is Leo Imai, who formed another Super-ish Group with Shutoku Mukai called Kimonos... I had to eat my heart out recently, I tell you, after finding about Kimonos are reuniting for a couple of shows that they'll be playing with Great3 ;_; I love Kimonos. I love Great3!!!!! I want to go ;_;

Anyway, Metafive had my album of the year, for sure. I didn't think it was ever going to be released, cos they had a bit of controversy with one of their members and the whole album got shelved... But then the controversy blew over, and it -did- get released, and I love the whole thing and this song is so good: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vHTvitTM76c It should be on all streaming services, I think... It's worth checking out, really. And... That's all I can think to recommend back lol It's been a weird year... Kirinji were my top artist again, but I cannot recommend Kirinji because everyone listens to Kirinji. Kirinji and artists from the 80s, that was my year in a nutshell, music wise.

There's a little bit more to "Wife" once you listen to it on the album... I am not entirely sure why they went with a shorter edit for the video... The song isn't like eight minutes long, it didn't need to be shortened...??? But everything they've put out, which is two albums and an EP, are really, really, really good. But I am extremely partial in saying that because every single member of Metafive makes great music in their own right, so I end up being biased and wanting to like their output for that reason. ...And I am kind of obsessive about Leo Imai. His solo stuff, Kimonos, Metafive, any time he guests on a Towa Tei song, which is fairly often... I love everything. And I am so happy you're digging Fujin Club!! And your favorite song was my favorite song, great minds think alike lol Perhaps now you can be the second person I know projecting positive thoughts in to another album coming out and we can manifest it into being lol

Hello again~ Do you listen to much, or any, HARCO? I noticed a compilation album of his is on Spotify... It combines his "Ethology", "Night Hike" and "Wish List" EPs in to one handy release. And those were the best things he ever put out in my opinion, so it's a great introduction if you've never heard him. This song is such a Jam: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nb7ETcylCGY Oh, but there are two HARCO's on Spotify, so if you click on a page and it has cuss words on it, that is not the HARCO you are looking for lol The album I'm strongly recommending is called "E/NH/WL 2004-2006"

...Or, like, if you even use streaming services. I am assuming this album would be on all of them if you do. And that there are two HARCOs on most of them as well.

I lied. One more shout. I stand corrected on Refely. Someone -did- essentially upload their whole album on YouTube, just as individual tracks. Only one track is missing, so eight of the nine are on there. The best ones are on there tho. Like this one too: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TmwL0sn7m3A

haha that's a lot of stuff to dig into! I was previously aware of that Caraway album, as im subscribed to the channel that uploaded it. I really liked it and added it to my playlist but never went back to it for some reason, so thanks for reminding me. Ill get to all these artists eventually! Thank you again for the recommendations, I checked out mega shinnosuke's song you linked and it really feels like a modern take on the genre, plus the video is really cool too.

on another note, i would love to recommend something back but it seems your knowledge of obscure japanese music has everything covered! Still, have you listened to the soundtrack for the puzzle game ''Kotoba no puzzle Mojipittan''? Its really incredible, and i love the fact they managed to make an amazing shibuya/picopop record as a soundtrack for just a kids puzzle game. Also, corniche camomile is great if you don't know her already and, have you listened to the band Citrus? Maybe its not really your style, but the raw, melancholic sound really appeals to me.

I was totally going to point out when I was visiting your page earlier how cool it was to see someone else jamming on the Mojipittan OST... I actually own a physical copy of it :0 I was sold on who they got to do remixes, and was pleasantly surprised to find out the whole soundtrack was pretty great even apart from those remixes("cherry" gets stuck in my head on a frequent basis, for instance) Also, Citrus are fantastic. I'm obsessed with Chocolat, and they let her basically sing over a straight up Citrus track once: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PlJD7wBL-Lw So I love them for that XD And I love their "wispy no mercy" EP. ...Probably because "Fargo" is like a reworking of "Blue Mercedes" :D But I am willing to give just about anything a try... So if there are bands or songs you really like and want to pass on, please do! I am pretty sure I have Corniche Camomile stuff somewhere, so I will have to revisit that in the meantime :)

oh my god haha, youre right, Fargo does sound exactly like a citrus track! Its quickly becoming one of my favorite songs, I really can't stop listening. We'll, here's an album I haven't listened to in quite some time, its the OST for the game Gurumin. The game itself is a really charming and fun action platformer, but the ost is by far my favorite part. They have this totally bossa map theme which blew me away https://youtu.be/19VpzLDmjpE. The stage themes also stand out https://youtu.be/ybROH2G6ueA, https://youtu.be/qVB3SunDclE. And also this track I haven't heard ingame yet! https://youtu.be/kE2MiXLCQvY And lastly this awesome vocal track which is used for the ending, i assume https://youtu.be/5Kcxl7Gz99A

Thank you so much for the recommendation! I am really digging the tracks you linked! I am almost getting a YMO's Naughty Boys/Service/solo Yukihiro Takahashi vibe from that second track, which I love :D Amazingly, the whole OST is streaming on Spotify, so I am totally going to dig in. This is just the kind of stuff I love in video game OST's too :)

Last recommendation, and a more modern one. Mega Shinnosuke is Amazing. He's kind of all over the place with what genres you could peg him as, but "Togenkyo to Taxi" fits the bill for tetrapletrap like music, -I- feel. Again, could be totally wrong and/or delusional. I love this song tho: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C2NEyroeugI He released his first full length... last year, I am pretty sure, and there's quite a bit of good stuff on it. No "Togenkyo to Taxi" tho :( That was on an earlier EP. He has a bunch of stuff on Spotify tho... Highly recommended. Okay. I'm done polluting your shoutbox now! I hope you found something you liked somewhere in my recommendations! And it wasn't all stuff you've already heard!

No one uploaded their whole album yet, and that's a shame, but there are a smattering of tracks by Refely to be found and they are -excellent-. They only put out a single album to my knowledge, but it's so so good. Infectiously cheerful: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZWsA-YqQer0 Shinji Kuno is great too. More solo guy guitar pop(or, maybe more accurately, piano pop?), but sadly I couldn't find anything from his first two releases, which were put out on the indie label abcdefg* record(really, just about any artist that label put out releases by would be worth checking out. from what I remember, it leaned heavily on the guitar pop thing) Once he got signed to a major label his sound got a bit more... polished? It wasn't horrible, just... different. This song is fun tho: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LRgyyaSEClY And his dance choreography in it includes the universal motion for making an armpit fart so what's not to love!

last.fm itself says that Orangenoise Shortcut is a similar artist, and since I love that group tremendously I will second that opinion. Their first album was uploaded in its entirety too and you can find that here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ty6OcZGy0A Again, the first track is absolutely my favorite... So, same rules apply :) All their releases are really good tho, and Sugimoto Kiyotaka himself composed a lot of jams for rhythm games like Beatmania and Pop'n Music, so great stuff from him is like everywhere. It's awesome.

I would be glad to try and help point you in the direction of more tetrapletrap sounding things! ..Just be warned, the way I hear music and the way other people hear them are most often extremely different. So what sounds like a similarity to me could like not even exist to someone else. Yes. Of course, the first place you could start is by listening to tons of more Flipper's Guitar, since tetrapletrap pretty much modeled his own sound after theirs. I mean, his "Vector" is "Camera! Camera! Camera!" only slightly redone... :D The Caraway put out a really good guitar-pop-esque album too... ugh, like 14 years ago now. I'm so old I remember when it first came out lol Some kind soul uploaded the whole thing on YouTube... The first track is my favorite: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cTXClqvy040 So if that doesn't grab you immediately, I'm not sure if anything else will...?

Hello again~ I was thinking, since it looks as though you listen to quite a bit of Shibuya-kei/Neo-Shibuya-kei, have you tried out Final Spank Happy...? I am a little bit obsessed with them and feel like they're not being appreciated enough, so. They only have like one full length and a couple of singles out tho. Maybe with time and more releases then. Anyway, I love this song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T3rvUTVKjF0 And their most recent single is really cool too: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R7XQNifLZC8 You may have listened to them in their first form, just Spank Happy...? They were active in the 90s, around the same time a lot of other first wave Shibuya-kei bands were. Also worth checking out.
