I actually downloaded that show a while ago when it was available on dimeadozen. It's very good! There can't be too many Television gigs Lloyd did after this one... I didn't know that Thurston Moore trivia, not a bad choice, though! I do remember an interview with Tom&Thurston a few years back were Thurston said that in his young days he used to follow Tom around in New York and see what magazines he was buying. Sounds like a good hobby! I would probably do the same if Tom Verlaine lived in my town.. :-) I've been wanting to hear that lost album as well! There are a couple of tracks on Miller's Tale which I think is from that album. Anna is actually one of my favourite Verlaine-songs. I haven't heard any other ones, though, but I really hope the preson responsible for rejecting Verlaine lost his job! An album of Tom Verlaine yawning would be interesting to me! :-)

I'd say those ringing ears could indicate that earplugs might have been useful.. :-) So did you like it? I assume there was lots of between-the-songs banter and jokemaking from J Mascis.. :-)

Ah, so that's why I thought Prove It sounded different... :-) But I really don't know why the producers of the show bothered to put a name of the song on the broadcast, when they obviously don't have a clue and just put up a random Verlaine song.. Anyhow, let's hope that Tom soon gets out of his "state of suspended animation", and releases some new material. It's been quiet for a while now.

Have you seen this? http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=2CA84609318953C1 I saw them in Norway just a week before that concert. Very nice to see again! I really like how different some of the songs sound, "Prove It" for example.

Nice to hear that you liked Built to Spill. I saw them last year performing "Perfect From Now On" and it was brilliant! I can imagine the crowd reacted to the Canada-reference! I guess it's similar to when bands come to Norway and have learnt a norwegian phrase like "How are you doing?" or something. Always a crowd-pleaser! :-) I really like the new Built to Spill-album, and right now I have to listen to it at least once a day. Some of those long guitar parts are magic, and Built to Spill is a band I hope will keep doing the same thing for years..

I always find Morrissey more rewarding than The Smiths, especially since all the 'indie kids' got their mainstream hands on them. The best place tro start with Morrissey is Viva Hate, do it chronologically, 1988-1991 is my favourite period. My favourite album is Kill Uncle but you're in for a treat with any album really.

It's amazingly released next week! http://www.bar-none.com/the-feelies.html The Good Earth also! Apparently the original albums with some downloadable bonus tracks, probably a good way to do it. And they are also performing Crazy Rhythms in its entirety next week. Now that's a concert I wish I could go to!

I haven't had any musical revelations lately, like Crazy Rhythms was back in the day, but there are a couple of Norwegian artists I really like at the moment, "I Was a King" and "Tommy Tokyo", but they are probably difficult for you to track down. Else, if you haven't heard "The Auteurs" they could be worth checking out. They released four good albums in the 90s. I especially like "New Wave" and "After Murder Park". Another good artist is Malcolm Middleton, which I guess you can label a "singer-songwriter". "Into the Woods" is a very good album!

I think Dinosaur Jr.'s new album 'Farm' is on the level of most of their other albums, but they have their style and I guess they don't change too much. But if you want to maintain any contact with the outer world after the concert, I recommend that you remember your earplugs. They are LOUD! :-) I'm looking very much forward to the new Built to Spill album. Everything those guys do is quality!

Just read your post of the 10 best post-punk/new-wave bands and could not agree more with your choices. Nicely done :)

Sorry about this late reply my laptops been broke so I've not been online for a while. It's hard to reccomend you anything in the way of punk/post-punk, because your taste in that department already kicks so much ass. However, you seem to have a lack of Pere Ubu, Roxy Music, The Pogues, Liquid Liquid, New York Dolls, 999, The Slits, Au Pairs, The Dictators, Dead Kennedys, and The Saints in your charts so you should give them a listen. After that I would point you in the post-hardcore direction, because that's what I started listening to that after I wanted to move on from post-punk. Real post-hardcore (i.e. not all that Funeral For A Friend shite) is pretty similar to post-punk but just with more energy and a lot of it is obviously influenced by post-punk bands. I suppose the logical place to start off would be some of the earlier bands like Fugazi, Nation Of Ulysses or Rites Of Spring, but tbh At The Drive In was the one that got me into the genre.

Hi trading partner. I am still reading the rules trying to figure out when I am sending a mix to whom. lol... but in the meantime, do you prefer to get a d/l or a physical CD? Either way works for me. Drop me a note. :)

I did mean people in general. You are being too pessimistic. Consider how many people make music these days? In the eighteenth century, someone like you probably thought it was a good thing that there werent many composers, and look at music now. It is by far the most consumed art form in popular culture. If more people were to write poetry, there woudl be more good poets. There would be more bad ones too, but who gives a fuck? And poetry being uncool has a lot to do with it. People look down on the writers of poetry. It is seen as borgeouis/immature/pathetic to most people, and that stigma keeps it out of peoples lives, which is inarguably terrible. Anyway, most modern poets are a bit shit. Carol Ann Duffy? Simon Armitage? Great English poetry died with Wilfred Owen, and great Americal poetry died when the beat poets did. In fact, poetry as a popular art form in general died when Robert Zimmermann picked up a Woody Guthrie LP and a guitar.

I've given First Issue and Metal Box a few listens the past couple of days, and they definitely sound interesting! I also like the guitar sound and the rawness of the songs, however, I think I will need a few more focused listens to get a real opinion. And they are not the easiest band to interview from what I've seen on youtube.. :-)

So Marquee Moon sounds like the White Stripes..!? It would be funny to see Tom Verlaine and Billy Ficca dressing up in matching red and white while playing catchy riffs, but I fear that train has passed... :-) How was the Wire concert?
