Smart thing would be to take Dutch or German or if you can get Old English. Old English and Old Norse are actually quite similar to each other. Where we have cognates with Swedish it tends to be in very old words (Boat and Båt, house and hus, foot and fot, nose and näse) and that's because of Old English/Old Norse and all the viking raping and pillaging. :D

Well, the problem is that there is a ton written in Swedish and Norwegian about it. Start learning Old Norse and a Swedish or Norwegian now if you're interested in doing that work. Just as a heads up. Old Norse is tough and you gotta hit it early.

Ah, good stuff. Though, really, the Norse mythology stuff is pretty well-tread (as a bit of advice). It would be an amazing thing to study but there's such a dearth of information that it's difficult to write anything even remotely novel about it.

Well first of all, I definitely don't think this is there best work. Not even close. there are a few catchy fun tracks (The Play of the Leaves, What's left of Me, This Nightmare Will Never End and Silence of de Mort, Runereader) and some track who easily could be a cover from some kind of pop/rock band. I don't dislike the album but that's because I like the tunes, but not because it's Elvenking. Because this is definitly NOT Elvenking. There is no song in which you can bring back the whole "Elven" term. I know that EK is a band who is experimenting with styles but I don't understand why they let there true fans down. I think they will never return to there old foik style. Mabye some little influences but that's it. But don't get me wrong, I'm enjoying and it's a fun album. And hey, it's Elvenking, they make fun tunes and I'll take that for the better :)

thanks for leaving that link for that sample the new album is sounding like the perfect blend of both of BG's early and later musical styles

I think it's very nice but it needed more listens than Sagas in my opinion. There are more songs which are complex but in the end that doesn't matter. It's very epic again and the new vocalist makes a good job even if his voice is darker than Helge's. The album is very versatile and shows some ways to sound epic.
