Hi ! Sorry for the late answer... You can try my favorite bands. Doom : Draconian, Now Aurea, Lethian Dreams, Remembrance, My dying bride, Swallow the sun. Gothic : Tristania, Sirenia (early), Theatre of tragedy (only the early albums are gothic, the rest is different but worth listening !), The sins of thy beloved, Trail of tears (same thing as theatre of tragedy), Moonspell. Black : Emperor (masters of black metal !), Dimmu Borgir (some might say it's not black but it's a good start), Immortal, Enslaved, Borknagar, Limbonic art. I'm not pretty much into death metal but i advice you to start with swedish melodic death metal : Dark tranquillity (the only one i actually like), arch enemy, in flames, soilwork... And to end it, i would recommend you Therion, one of the few good symphonic metal band. Btw i'm impressed by the number of listenning of Deftones ! I used to like them too.

By the way, Adam Gontier, Three Day's Grace's lead singer did a feature song for Apocalyptica back in 2007. The name of the song is "I Don't Care" and I think he did a really great job. have you listened to it?

I'm also a hardcore gamer! I play on my hardcore PC :D what type of games suit you the best? for me that's RPG Action games like Witcher and Fable or cool FPS games specially the horror ones like FEAR. I'm not into strategy games much or the fighting games, but I play them both well.
