OK we'll call a truce then. Also please disregard what I said about commercial radio because Dad was offered a gig on it again today and I think he is gonna accept. Long live commercial radio! *embarrassed*

Commercial radio as a whole is dying mate, stick your head in the sand and deny it if you like but it won't change things. No local content, rigid homogenised playlists, presenters not allowed to have a personality, declining ad revenue blah and indeed blah. I'm afraid I'm even boring myself now and won't be replying again.

Nope, that isn't what I meant. I meant that the 1.4 million or so listeners of 6Music with alternative music tastes are more important than some written remit. Personally I don't see the point of Radio 2 because it is basically a commercial radio station with the ads removed, but I would never argue for it to close because it has 14 million listeners who are obviously happy with it. Plus, commercial radio is currently dying on its arse, just ask my Dad who was a presenter for 30 years and had to give it up and get a 'proper job' because the money is so shite.

Actually squire I'm right, if you had bothered to read what I wrote. The outcry over 6Music being axed is the only reason it is still here. Listeners 1 : Remit 0.

Fair enough it may not be following its remit to the letter and that was one of the reasons why it was going to be closed. But guess what? I'm afraid it turned out that the people who don't care about the remit and enjoy listening to it far outnumber the people who complain on message boards about it.

Well at least we agree on one thing then :). But I've only heard The Cribs on 6Music once I think, admittedly I've only been listening the last year or so. If you look in their library on here Cribs aren't even in their top 500 artists. I can tell you don't listen at all though, do you? It's quite apparent. I'm only apologetic because you clearly have some sort of agenda against them without being a regular listener.

I meant paranoid in the sense that you think people are talking about you. I don't know why you are bringing up The Cribs but if I was asked to name the most generic, "landfill indie" band they would be the first name on my lips. The whole term "indie" is bullshit anyway. Steps were an indie band. Do you really think 6Music has anything to gain from making its daytime playlist more obscure? It certainly won't gain them any additional listeners, in fact it would probably finish them off and no-one benefits from that.

Isn't that a Rod Stewart song? I'm sorry, I am not qualified to evaluate your mental health. But I worry that paranoia might be a symptom.

6music songs from last 20 songs not heard on radio1/2 mechanical bride, Tune-Yards, the jellies, Pastor TL Barret, Pete & the Pirates, plus four classics, and a couple of more modern clasiscs. No new music that is played anywhere else. I think I might have said this, but you obviously don't actually listen to 6music. I know how you like to have the last word, so I look forward to hearing from you.

Erm; "...to entertain lovers of popular music with a service offering music from the 1960s to the present day...." I think this pretty much covers what I said. In terms of the true remit that I mentioned below, that was taken from an interview with Bob Shennan. Shall we leave it at that? You obviously don't like 6music, and luckily for you, you don't have to listen to it. Take advantage of last.fm and create a radio station you do want to listen to.

And what is pop? Strictly speaking it is popular music. As I said, rock, unfortunately for you is not fashionable, so this does not fit into the remit of 6music however you choose to interpret it. There true remit is to increase the number of listeners and obviously the best way to do this is by playing music which more people like. I am not sure that I understand your definition of Indie, but I don't think it is relevant anymore. Indie like all labels for musical genres is very broad, hence my suggestion that it applies to the label. Indie music to me (because of my age) was Blur etc in the mid 90's. With regard to what 6music play the 80's stuff comes from the presenters age and as it is what they grew up with. I think they play far more than you suggest, soul, blues, electronic, classic rock, they have to squeeze in a lot of different music.

Have you actually even listened to 6music? It isn't a rock station, there are plenty of rock stations out there, like you say thank god for the internet. Music follows trends, just like every other consumer good. Rock has not been fashionable for a long time, hence the lack of airplay. You may find the current indie music derivative, but there is actually a very broad range of "indie" music in a lot of genres. 6music are the one station which can be relied upon to play a lot of music from independent labels and unsigned artists. Perhaps you should listen to their library on here, you might be surprised.

Hey, ye Ive got my ticket already, went past earlier n had a wooo moment at seeing the poster! Im so excited, yer I agree that the new album is a bit poppy but I find the more I listen to it the more I like it, it still has the technical aspects of dredg. But ye its not as consistantly good as previous albums. Im going to the PT gig, saw them last oct in london as well, they were amazing, oceansize were supporting, what a gig. Singer of oceansize was losing his voice so not so good as previous gigs Ive been to in ifor bach. Ye lets hope dredg get the recognition that they so deserve
