he represents the most toxic masculine ideals in a surprisingly human way. he can sing about drug and sex abuse and have it sound like a heartbreaking ballad. the issue is that this artist became very successful in 2014 and pivoted into a pop-leaning sound that you're likely more familiar with (blinding lights, save your tears, starboy, etc.) but Trilogy (listen to this first, any order, even the 30 tracks on shuffle ngl) will show a completely different side. its gothic, moody, yet endlessly enjoyable. he still has hooks, the songs are 6-7 minutes long without appearing artsy at all. Start with Trilogy, then After Hours/BBTM for his pop stuff. Hurry Up Tomorrow is an intended 'climax' to his discography, i'd recommend only listening to that once you're aware of his character/personality cause it'll be a lot better imo. MDM, is a perfect toe-dip into his music since its like 6 songs

Thank you brother, I appreciate it. I like that you recommend the nearly 3 hour project as a first time listen but I'll try it none the less lol. What exactly would you say makes him stand out from his peers? My initial hesitation to checking him out earlier is that "auto tuned pop tunes for moody boys" is quite a saturated field, especially nowadays. It's not inherently a bad thing but I'm mainly wondering if there's a "but" to it all.

lol ig you don't have to listen to the whole 3 hours, just a few songs will give you a good idea on the sound of it. The Weeknd is the quintessential moody autotuned pop artist too. Low Life, Might Not, Often, Reminder prove he can spit, After Hours, Enjoy the Show, The Party & The After Party prove he's an artistic genius, and literally any song will prove that he can sing his ass off. let me know what you think whenever you get around to listening

defo start with just house of balloons then do AH --> Starboy, then u have choices, run back tril or dawnfm depending on if u preferred HOB or AH, or run BBTM if u preferred starboy. All of tril is too overwhelming!

How did Far East Movement get away with releasing “Like a G6” despite having literally no contributions to the song? I just recently learned that the chorus of “Like a G6” was sampled from a Dev song, produced by the cataracts and both verses on the song are performed by the producers. Given that no member of the Far East Movements voice, writing or production is on the song, why was it released under their name? Was there discourse or backlash at the time about that?

Open Mike Eagle is a soft spoken conscious rapper who raps over some electronic flared production. his new album is actually a pretty decent first album to check out. he's good friends and collaborators with billy woods too!

I definitely have a few LEAST favs but the only reviews of his i remember are the funny negative ones (miley cyrus dead pets, big day, COADM, etc). i love the Siri Picks Fav Album series though

Armand Hammer actually did come here! And I don't think Roc is gonna run it back for a while sadly. Mavi & Navy Blue for sure will come, probably already have. Mach Hommy would be a dream but idk if he would. Me and Shadman (and Marlin, the GREAT [Sydney rapper] and Liam) actually bumped into billy woods after the show! I will let Shadman share the story tho.

MIKE was quite good but the setlist was too Burning Desire heavy for my taste. he just had a great magnetic stage presence and it made you enjoy all the songs regardless. and yeah, Armand Hammer could come back 2026-27, they were here 2 years ago. Mach Hommy is impossible to see even in the US but he's actually been touring for like the first time in ages, promoting his new Conductor Williams album, idk if Sydney is on the table for a good while 💀 also no clue about Roc, i think he cancelled due to the passing of Ka but he's not a demanded enough artist to need to come back, he may duck us forever...

not too many at the moment since it just dropped, but i can tell this is in his top 3 (church + WBDTS the other 2). love its themes, its so brutal in its depiction of modern society. he's known for his pessimism and depressing lyrics but Golliwog takes it to new lights. i love how rooted it is in his childhood and in literature. i love how textured the production is, it doesnt feel like he's rapping over 'beats' but something entirely different. i haven't revisited much because its so haunting and sinister. even just this morning i tried to listen to it but it demands so much attention that i had to turn it off. i know damn well that by the end of the year this will have grown into maybe his best album, minimum top 3, but for now i am in a state of awe and amazement at the album. ask me again in a month or two, i may have deeper thoughts right now my interpretation is very rudimentary

doing alright , but D2 is kinda hard to assess as its like 75% finished. the album shows a lot of promise and if it were completed to the extent of D1, i'm sure it'd be a good 7-8/10, i love the darkness and Ye's having a complete mental breakdown. the lo-fi production + scrappy nature of the lyrics actually work for me because of how pained he sounds across the whole thing. overall, like a 6/10

me and Nafiz have colluded and we decided that it is obscene that you space out the timings so. 90 days for songs, 30 for albums, 7 for artists. Where is the consistency. Hard to parse, are you still going back to Crank, or was it 65 days ago... Too much confusion.

its mainly just based on how frequently they change. artists are better week to week, albums are better for 1 month+ and the songs are just the highest played of the year. I wanted to sync all 3 of them up but then the Artists/Albums wouldn't change much

to me, outside of those 3 I would recommend Brass, Church, HWAM, and Paraffin but here's the whole ranking:::: Church > WBDTS > Known Unknowns > Shrines > Paraffin > Aethiopes > Terror Management (very unpopular ranking) > Hiding Places > Maps > Brass > Rome > BLK LBL > Dour Candy > Haram > WHT LBL > T,IWN > HWAM > Race Music > Half Measures > Furtive Movement > Chalice > Camouflage. ----- HWAM is very much Cannibal Ox 2.0, its aggressive politically charged music that feels militant. Known Unknowns feels less conceptual, more like a standard hip hop album. 18 tracks, 18 dope beats, 18 great tracks, but when he gets serious it will blow you away. i like that album for its consistency > its thematic cohesion, Robespierre and Keloid are 2 of his best songs EVER
