If you want some awesome Brit punk you really can't get better then the Clash! Then there's always Joe Strummer's solo stuff, or Joe Strummer & the Mescaleros which is a little softer but still brilliant. As far as other punk bands with a similar sound I personally love the Adverts (and the singer TV Smith, has done some awesome stuff too), the Lurkers, the Damned, 999, Buzzcocks, Stiff Little Fingers (who are actually from N.Ireland) and the Adicts. Then there's Dead Kennedys who are actually from California but to me are indistinguishable from a Brit punk band (just listen to Kill the Poor!). Dead Boys is another awesome American first wave punk band. Anyway I hope some of these are the type of thing you were looking for, happy hunting!
