Great immersive library in jazz, classical and avant-garde. High value taste in books. Greetings from Finland!

I've just started listening to classical music and I really like scriabin and takemitsu. Do you have any recommendations? your library looks great btw

If you like Scriabin try Feinberg’s piano sonatas or maybe the piano music of Roslavets/Obukhov. Takemitsu is a continuation of Debussy’s ideas but into quite a unique world. Maybe Messiaen?

can you recommend me some music by György Ligeti if I like the 2001: a space odyssey soundtrack?

If you haven't already do listen to the full works featured in the soundtrack (Lux Aeterna & his Requiem). Further to that, probably would recommend Clocks and Clouds, Lontano, and Atmospheres to start. If you enjoy those, you can expand to the rest of his large scale works like Apparitions, San Fransisco Polyphony, Melodien, and Ramifications.

I bought the soundtrack to the movie at the bookstore some time ago and I’ve listened to all his songs on there many times and I like them all.

Awesome - I've realised that there were a few more Ligeti works on the soundtrack than I thought. I hope you enjoy the other ones mentioned in any case!

Would you (and anyone who sees this) do me a favor? Please scrobble anything from artist name Tomomi Midair World. I’d like for her to get enough listeners to be on the similar artist lists. Regardless, thanks. My favorites are Midair World, Mark the End and white Turtleneck, but anything will do.

I’m glad you’re still carrying on. If I could meet any last fm listener in person to talk to about music my preference would be for it to be you.

Happy 9th scrobbling anniversary today! ... Congratulations to this, and your >5200 played artists ! ... How fast time passes by listening to good musc, isn't it so? ... What are your ideas about lastfm currently ( and if you still remember, what did you figure to get back when you joined the "scrobble gang" almost a decade ago)? ... btw: here in Germany we now have to wear masks when shopping, driving bus and so on... And in your country?

sorry for the late reply. The last couple of months I've really been into prog. coming from the canterbury scene. It's a lovely -sometimes improvisational- style with elements of Jazz, rock, and psychedelia. Some good names are: Caravan, Hatfield & The North and of course Soft Machine (especially the album Third). If you want something more on the fusion side you have to check out Shamal from the band Gong, the music is ''embellished'' by many flute, saxophone, violin and lead vocals parts. My last recommendation is this italian band called: Premiata Forneria Marconi with ther second album Per un Amico. This is very melodious music with liberal use of flute, acoustic guitar, piano and violin, and with synthesizer, Mellotron and organ such an integral part of the music that you almost don't notice they're contemporary, even during the very electronic-sounding parts.

whenever I get lost in my own head, I come here to find new music. Too many good names. Fantastic and diverse library! The only thing missing in your charts that took me by surprise is 70s progressive rock. I guess you're familiar within the genre but I'm curious what you think about it.

nice taste! classic-wise youve got a very similiar taste! talking scriabin, ravel, rachmaninoff, debussy, stravinsky/bartok/chopin/shostakovich (did you read his biographie? its one of the most interesting books i read!)/... but imho not enough hindemith scrobbels for your normal amount of scrobbeling. he deserves better! :]

Hahaha thanks, I will admit my Hindemith scrobbles are lacking... anything you'd recommend for me to sink my ears into?

i think hes very important, because he wanted to create music thats "needed" in society and not what his ego wanted to do! i dont fully agree, but its respectable and was the total opposite of the egotistical wagner who wanted to dominate music and cultures and other people, and what nazis loved back in the day! thats why hindemith was the main classical artist at the "entartete kunst" nazi-art-exhebitions (if u dont know, they basically showed there what NOT to listen to). maybe thats more important to me cause im german. also he composed so many very different things in life, but he still got a certain style, cause i like pretty much everything he did.

his foundation got a very good biography. all the important historical milestones of his life (also many of his important works). pretty interesting >> https://www.hindemith.info/en/life-work/biography/1895-1914/ (hope the english site works, i read it in german)

just so you dont get me wrong: i didnt compare his music to wagners, i just think its the best classical music comparision to what the nazis liked and didnt like. at the end who cares.. its great music. and if u want to listen to some important stuff just take some out of the biography i send u, he did so many very different things (probably more different styles than every other musician before) that i cant just give u 1 recommendation, but try 1 of them: in einer nacht, when lilacs last in the dooryard bloomd, der dämon, die junge magd

good chance his wife disputed the meetings with the author, cause shostakovich himself told her to (or the KGB). him and the author most likely had secretive, conspirative meetings all the time.
