Eve of Crass did vocal for a nurse with wound track who collaborated with william bennett of whitehouse who coined the term power elelctronics which is a style played y taint.

Yeah they are pretty far from one another in terms of theme. There is a little bit of a connection though, Crass had some experimental tracks (at least compared to the rest of punk) and its members appeared on Current 93 and Nurse With Wound albums. 6 degrees of separation and all that.

Sure I'd agree with all that, although I think control does have a close relation to other American PE via the heavy bass rumblings, they just don't forget about using a lot of other layered loops and higher end parts too. I don't mind vocals being heavily buried. I agree with the Deapthpile/Slogun comparision, but I like Deathpile so much more. Slogun is kinda mediocre to me about 75% of the time. I re-listened to the Whorebutcher half of the split again, and I didn't like their first song on it but the other four were pretty astounding. I'll have to buy some of their releases sometime.

I just meant I could see how the disgust towards people of some of the earlier acts could link up with straight edge's disgust towards drug users. I'll give that split another listen. I've been a fan of Deathpile for awhile, although I do get bored with the rumbling bass wall stuff if it doesn't have another element to it. Like most people I prefer Control.

I always wondered how much prison was the way they say it was. I remember reading the guy who wrote the ANSWER ME zines and how he said it wasn't at all like OZ or anything, although he didn't seem to think it was very much fun either.

You're absolutely right on the ""dumb junkie whore thing" and how that could connect to straight edge. That's pretty much the best of Phillip Best's lyrical content these days. I did see some of those groups, and am in the process of checking them out. I've not been a fan of MO from what I've heard. I've heard some of Mikko Aspa's projects (I've got a few splits/compilations) and I'm kind of mixed on it so far. I've thought all of it was solid, but so far he hasn't made it into my favorites.

That's not to say that the projects working from that angle aren't good, plenty are, but I feel like that angle should be evolved a bit, and a lot of groups just aren't doing that. Didn't know there was "straight edge" PE, sounds absurd, but I guess if Whitehouse wasn't around hardly anytime at all before blackhouse was doing christian PE I shouldn't be surprised as to whats evolved 20 odd years later. I'm not a big fan of the right wing/fascist stuff. I hear those kinds of opinions pretty constantly in KY, and they aren't shocking to me, they just seem wrong.

I was curious based on your blog/listening record. I guess I should say that I am gld there are still sexual/violent PE bands just as I'm glad there are still bands like Watain to keep the old black metal sound alive. I guess my real problem with some of it is how regressive it all can be. When I think of the bands who are taking those themes in new places and new directions I think of Sutcliffe Jugend, Whitehouse, and Consumer Electronics, which are the same bands who pioneered that style of Power Electronics in the first place! Why is it that the pioneers are still the major innovators? I realize plenty have done a lot to change the sound, but it feels like they all interpret sexual violence from the same old perspective; one that focuses on a male brutality, which to me just makes them lyrically an evolved version of death metal lyrics. There are so many different subtexts to S&M for example besides the sort of bestial male domination and yet it feels like its rarely explored.
