I only just saw CK's rec's cause I'm hellishly unobservant. I'd also add early Mouse on Mars to the list. They have a bit of Plaid's quirkiness and liquidy grooves.

and yes... I second the vote for The Black Dog.

If you are in a Plaid groove, you may also enjoy: µ-Ziq, Squarepusher, Lamb, Autechre and of course Amon Tobin. Not exactly the same as Plaid, but I discovered them all around the same time.

i'm unfamiliar with both lemon jelly & caia; i will take a listen.

The first Plaid-esque artist that springs to mind is an older duo called Yunx. Have you listened to any early Black Dog? Plaid were orignally part of BD. Bytes and Spanners are the two titles to look for there... Hmm. I think I'll listen to Bytes myself now ;)
