I have the feeling that people (including myself) tag as "emo pop" if the performer(s) are not part of this "emo" scene neither the song is "punk" or whatever but still the song/performer(s) have anything related to the "emo scene" or the song does consist of something "punky" as shown by the fact that Emo Pop originally was an abbrevieation for Emo Pop Punk to show the difference between emo Pop Punk bands which shot out of the ground in early '00 till about 2011/12 and "usual" Pop Punk bands. Sadly lots of the bands nowdays mixed and you can't tell the difference anymore. Paramore (pre 2005) for example was Emo Pop Punk whereas for example New Found Glory was "only" Pop Punk (pay attention to me using past tense throughout this sentence)
