Timeless. One of my favourite songs, ever. I never get bored of it, sublime moment in the history of music.

His voice is kinda grating at times and he can't really hit high notes very well imo

Charming 80's synth melodies that ain't obnoxiously cheesy, one of their finest openers.

Geddy just advised the media that Neil Peart passed away of brain cancer on January 7th, 2020... What a tragic loss, as he was such an incredible lyricist and percussionist... perhaps the finest drummer to ever grace our planet. Deepest condolences to his Family, Friends and Rush.

This song has been an absolute fixture in my life since I was six years old. In my childhood, it served as a warning and a preview of the traps and failings of high school and adult life. In high school, it served as catharsis for those times when the lyrics hit a little too close to home. And now, in my adulthood, it serves as both a nostalgic portal to those troubled, yet blissful times as well as a measuring stick by which to ensure I don't find myself losing that race to those rats.

"Be cool or be cast out" I can definitely relate to this song, highschool was tough time for me and many others. [2]

After years of dabbling and toiling in the background, synthesizers came to the forefront on this Signals single. As a result, the band's subsequent live shows would see Geddy take on triple duty more and more as he handled vocals, bass, and multiple keyboards. Dealing with Peart's less-than-enjoyable memories of suburban life, “Subdivisions” also features a rare vocal from the skin-man on the track's title line – though Lifeson’s the one singing it in the video and in concert. -- watchmojo

love this song--I would add something to the discussion on the use of keyboards by rush---the use of them in the context of a "hard rock" band was not unheard of--deep purple and others had used them for years-but to break form as rush did was something that their label rejected--hats off to rush for pushing their own musical boundries against the formumatic musical establishment
