The Czech black metal band Maniac Butcher was formed in September of 1992 by the vocalist Barbarud. He had wanted to form a metal band with that name since 1988 but it wasn"t until now that it became reality. In 1990-1991 he had another band called Cintoreen Moor. On December 23rd they did their first live show. In April 1993 they replaced their original bass player Thomas with a new one named Jorg. In June they recorded their first demo called "Immortal Death". During the winder Maniac Butcher played several live shows and was the first Czech metal band to use war paint, at least according to themselves. In August of 1994 they recorded their second demo "The Incapable Carrion" and before the year had ended they were also given the first offer to record a cd but it never led to anything. In September of 1995 they released a split EP with Dark Storm through View Beyond Records. In November their debut cd "Barbarians" was released and during 1995 they also did 15 live shows. Unfortunately Jorg had to leave the band. In May 1996 Lord Uncleans joined Maniac Butcher. In September their second album "Lucan - Antikrist" was released. In March 1997 they recorded a tape "Live In Annaberg" after which their drummer Michael had to leave. In September came their third album entitled "Krvestreb". In the spring of 1998 Lord Unclean left the band and there were now only two members left; Barbarud and Vlad. During the summer they recorded and released the fourth album "Cerna Krev". In May of 1999 Butcher and Ramus joined as session members and in July they released a split cd with Inferno and Sezarbil called "Proti Vsem". In October came the fifth full length release as well entitled "Invaze" and the following month they released the live tape "Live In Open Hell" which had been recorded at the Open Hell Fest in the summer. In March 2000 they re-released "Cerna Krev" on cd with three live bonus tracks under the name "Sangue Negro" through the Brazilian label Mega Therion Records. It also included a special booklet in Portuguese. In June Akhenaten of Judas Iscariot joined the band as a session member on bass. During the summer "Invaze" was re-released on mc in Malaysia and in December they released their final album called "Epitaph - The Last Onslaught Of Maniac Butcher", limited to 3000 copies on cd and 1000 copies on vinyl on Death To Mankind Records. After this the band stopped all musical activities. During the following years several re-releases of their material followed, both on vinyl and cd.
As Barbarud stated in a postmortem interview, Maniac Butcher is dead…

Maniac Butcher这个名字诞生于87-89的某段时间，主唱Barbarud Hrom也记不清了，可他肯定乐队正 式成立是在1992年，于捷克西北部乌斯季州的Zatec城。这座城邦在11-13世纪的时候作为一个行政中心与大教堂存在，现今以啤酒花的出产闻名。看 起来是酒精刺激了这帮年轻人的神经，不过Barbarud后来否认了这一点。总之他和Vlad Blasphemer决定成立Maniac Butcher（Barbarud之前尚拥有一支未成型的乐队Cintoreen Moor，或许是Maniac Butcher的雏形。我们知道Barbarud在八十年代末玩过一些重金属，并声称受到同期或更早的敲击乐团影响，像是Sodom,Piledriver,Celtic Frost,Living Death,Voivod）并于92年十二月二十三日做了第一次现场演出。之后贝斯手Jorg于1993加入，同年七月Maniac Butcher录制了他们的第一张Demo-Immortal Death，封面绘 着末日的山峦与其脚下被钉在十字架上的基督。次年在录音室中做出第二张Demo-The Incapable Carrion，有趣的是他们把上一张封面的基督给倒过来了，还把钉他的十字架给撤了。这确实是两张狂躁的Demo。结构与曲调迅疾的变化赐予了他们一副 疯乱的嘴脸。野蛮的，横突直撞的，来路不明的编制像是Sarcofago从地里冒出来，或者是撇下条序的Holocausto。而配器方面则干练到无可复 加，粗糙，原始，硬气，泾渭分明。他们甚至根本懒得用其他辅助来撼动你，当然也与同时期其它黑金属乐 队一样使用低成本低保真的制作。 （2003年乐队将两张Demo做了拼合并由Mutilation Records重发了1000份） 同期，Bararud自己成立了厂牌Pussy God Records并发行这两张Demo。在93-94年间，Maniac Butcher做了一系列演出，并在现场率先用皮衣、子弹、钉刺等武装了自己，成了捷克第一支“军妆”（War Paint）乐队。
1995年Maniac Butcher与Dark Storm（大部分是Maniac Butcher的原班人马，Barbarud则声称从未真正参与，不过是先在酒吧里和乐队成员们聊聊，然后三天录完Demo。与Maniac Butcher相同，他还是个写词跟唱歌的。他甚至觉得两个团理念一样，于是就退出了Dark Storm）发行了拼盘EP-Black Horns of Saaz。同年贝斯手Jorg离队。十一月，乐队首张全长专辑-Barbarians 发行，在世界范围内获得了不错的反响，乐队并一连做了15场巡演。专辑Barbarians明显浸染了第二波黑金属浪潮的血液，像是Mayhem。专辑曲 目不再有愣头青的冲劲，编排上更加繁复与纠结。虽然气氛上邪了不少，攻击性只增不减，但还尚未沾上现代黑金属的习气。
第二年，新的贝斯手（兼吉他）Lord Unclean加入。九月，第二张专辑-Lucan-Antikrist发表。（Lucan是他们的异教先祖，但Barbarud说自己对什么异教神灵， 神话什么的没兴趣。另外他们对这张专辑的说明也挺有意思- with excellent sound and big colour booklet.）。在94-96年间，Maniac Butcher同一些志同道合的乐团们组织了个黑金圈子Black Horns of Behemia，他们一同创作巡演，但后期却在谣传谎言与嫉妒下被摧毁了。同是在1996年，Barbarud成立了自己的录音室乐队Nhaavah（英 文Death），以创建他更快更狠更残酷更原始的音乐体验。 （1998年Barbarud与Vlad Blasphemer的分支乐队Nhaavah发行了首张唱片-The Kings of Czech Black Metal 这正是我想说的，这略带挑衅意味的标语，但又何尝不是哪？）
1997年三月，乐队的现场磁带-Live in Annaberg发行，鼓手Michael离队。九月，第三张专辑-Krvestreb发行。98年春，贝斯手Lord离队，Maniac Butcher变成Barbarud 与 Blasphemer的双人团（事实上其他队员的更替并不会怎么影响Maniac Butcher，一直都是由Barbarud作词兼主唱，Vlad Blasphemer负责所有乐器）。同年夏，Cerna Krev发行。总的来说，这两张专辑都向着更成熟的姿态发展，Krvestreb显得高速化，甚至像是做了一次小回潮。而Cerna Krev的录音状况有了很大变化，另一个是Barbarud嗓音变得更涩了。
99年五月，两名巡演乐手加入，吉他手Ramus与鼓手Butcher。前者是Avenger成员（在捷克黑金圈内同Maniac Butcher联系紧密的团，前面提到的Black Horns of Behemia瓦解后，Barbarud少有的尚联络并敬佩的乐队） 而后者在Krieg,Nargaroth,Judas Iscariot等团参与过。七月，乐队同Inferno与Sezarbil的拼盘-Proti vsem发行。十月，第五张全长专辑-Invaze发行，卷携着原始的，战争的黑暗之声席卷而来。次月，现场磁带-Live in Open Hell发行。
2000年Cerna Krev再版，并附加三首现场曲目。六月，来自Judas Iscariot的贝斯手Akhenaten加入巡演人员名单。十二月，新专辑也是最后的专辑Epitaph - The Last Onslaught Of Maniac Butcher发表。Maniac Butcher宣告死亡。
而后Beyond Records，Mutilation Records等相继又进行了再版发行乐队前作与Maniac Butcher的现场DVD。
那么好吧，现在我们来看看Maniac Butcher的死因，这是他们留下的遗嘱：
"We and our musical feeling stayed same but the scene around us was changed a lot in the last years. Many old great hordes already left the scene and there remain tons of sweet childish imitations full of romantic keyboards and female vocals. We are afraid there is no more place for hordes like Maniac Butcher on today's scene.
Now nearly no bands plays that, what was called as Black Metal in the past… and that, what is called as Black Metal today, we call shit. We don't want to do anything with that shit. We don't want to be part of this fuckin' scene for more…
Today's Black Metal scene is dead! But true Black Metal will live so long, until some true Black Metal fans will love and listen to old recordings!
We will never betray our roots!!!"
