I feel like Trent wrote a lot better music for this than for NIN at that time. The self titled album could be a massive hit under NIN with Trent's vocals. Unfortunately, without the power of NIN brand this wasn't noticed and his wife's vocals are very one-dimensional and uninspiring, only suitable for back vocals. But I can understand him, she's hot af, I would probably also try to keep her around.

The issue I had with How to Destroy Angels too was that the lyrics genuinely felt like they would've fared better with Trent's vocals. Fur Lined genuinely sounds like it could've been a song off the Slip ... and it doesn't help that it felt like the lyrics felt recycled. (on track, echoing, an animal, etc ...) Her range is limiting and she never really added anything. Welcome Oblivion had some good production and interesting ideas, but again ... something felt off. I liked Hesitation Marks quite a bit that year too, but I think that goes back to how Trent just has a more interesting range. Honestly, I wish How to Destroy Angels would've been like a different genre altogether... like Trent's complete take on shoegaze or garage rock lol. Something that just REALLY distinguished it from NIN.

everyone hates HTDA because of trent's wife, not me, I honestly think she was a good addition because let's be honest trent was never that good of a singer... HTDA only had one good album? yes that's a fact but at least their bad stuff it's the case that it's so bad it's good, the worst stuff by nine inch nails is just bad

Not everybody will like HTDA the same way not everybody likes Reznor's side projects but try to act like you're a reasonable human being while you talk about his wife and family

It would’ve been nice if this band didn’t feel like so much of a half-assed retread of familiar Nine Inch Nails moments and tried something radically different musically. Mariqueen just wasn’t a strong vocalist to carry the songs and both the lyrics and vocal delivery relied too heavily on a Trent Reznor aesthetic. That first EP was kinda fun, if not disappointing familiar. I wouldn’t be surprised if the band is done now and honestly ... it’s probably for the best.

I can't speak for everyone, but for me it's because at the time Reznor had been retreading the same sonic territory for a few albums and the announcement that he was putting Nine Inch Nails on hiatus while he started a new band raised my expectations for him to finally experiment with new sounds again. In the end the new band wound up sounding almost exactly like the previous few NIN albums. It had a new singer, but even then on most songs she delivered her lines almost exactly how Trent would. They're mostly fine songs, but we were expecting something new and wound up with more of the same.

Honestly I think it’s because HTDA has a female on vocals and that’s not everybody’s cup of tea and nobody wants to say it. Her voice sounds is pretty good, I dunno haters gon’ hate
