Brian Eno layed the foundations of ambient music as a genre, and this track specifically inspired David Bowie to produce the Berlin trilogy with Brain Eno co-producing.

Wonderful. Probably a big inspiration to the early sounds of Spiritualized (and even late Spacemen 3). Especially Feel So Sad.

Perhaps the best song to listen to when you happen to find yourself awake at 5am for some inexplicable reason.

Aphex Twin's SAW-V2 isn't similar to this at all imo. This is much more light-hearted and easy-listening in comparison. I guess they're both ambient and make liberal use of analog synths, with an emphasis on sine waves. But the similarity ends there.

Reminds me of Aphex's selected ambient works pt.2, though it was composed 20 years before that..

Minimalism expanded and inflated to encompass ... well, everything. A couple simple melodic phrases shift back and forth in relation to one another, constantly changing in volume and tone, until they've seemingly exhausted all their potential for sonic beauty. I'm not sure any song makes me more aware of the sheer possibilities of music. If one can do so much with so little, if one can seemingly find the whole of music in a few notes, how much more is out there for us to hear?

OMG, already almost 30 minutes have passed... I could continue listening for another 30 and be quite happy about it. This is incredibly lovely, and the perfect music for what I am doing right now. It is beautiful enough to savor yet sublime enough to concentrate on my task. Brian Eno is a master! Brilliant man.
