Бородин is his original Cyrillic/Russian name. Borodin is the Latinized version, although they're both pronounced virtually the same. You're unlikely to see him listed as Бородин unless you're using a Russian app or if your language is set to Russian, since most people can't read the Cyrillic alphabet.

I perfectly know it. What I meant is that an artist’s name should be written in western alphabet, for the reasons you said.

yeah it choosing to use the Cyrillic original over the more widely known Latinised name on an English speaking website is a bit jank. I mean imagine if people insisted you refer to Jackie Chan as 陳港生

How about we change all Armenian, Arabic, Greek, Japanese and Chinese artist names to their respective Armenian alphabet, arabic alhpabet, cyrillic and kanji writing just so it is true to their real name and in one go make it confusing for all an everyone just in the name of supposed "correctness" and not in the name of readability and convenience. Yeah, sounds like a great idea doesn't it. People can tag however they want but don't redirect to something most can't even read.

где-то в его произведениях (например, во второй симфонии) и сокрыт дух России-матушки. Он и Мусоргский по сути все основали, их и слушайте, а чайковских-полонезогинских - на мороз.

Peter, i think cyrillic in your id3 tags not the worst thing that ever happened to you. Anyway it do not change music. So, just take it easy :)

PS: I installed Plex Media Manager on my ReadyNAS and it is accessing the database of Last.FM automatically. So changing website settings isn't really an option. Now I get the message "Keep stats clean! Put the correct artist name in your file's ID3 tags to avoid incorrect or duplicate artists." I have music of 96 classical composers, and only "Alexander Borodin" and "Gioachino Rossini" can still not be found yet. And I don't like the idea of putting Cyrillic letters in my ID3 tags, cause I cannot read those. What if Chinese composers would show up?

Could a moderator perhaps change all different Borodins (this one, then its equivalent in arabic letters, and also one with simply the name Borodin) into Alexander Borodin...would make life easier for everyone!

Carry on arguing over which alphabet to spell his name in. I'll be over there enjoying the Overture from Prince Igor.

it's either Aleksandr Porfiryevich Borodin or Александр Порфирьевич Бородин - "Anekcahap Noponpbeny Bopoanh" doesn't make any sense and I don't know where did you people got the idea of spelling it like that

@hailmarduk666: ask the Slav? imagine that the world isn't that simple. I'm polish so I'm slav also and I don't know cyrillic alphabet nor russian language at all. Languages of east and western slavs are veeery different, so we can't naturally understand each other languages. That's very dumb stereotype.

Well everyone has their own ideas about this, but because Last.fm is global and english-speaking site, I think everything should be written in English so that all the users can read them. Of course it must be irritating to see the name spelled "wrong" but I find it irritating too when I'm looking at charts that I can't read.

Александр Порфирьевич Бородин is the correct way to write/say his name, and it is offensive to name him anything else. If you have a question about who he is, just ask a Slav and he/she will be more than willing to answer the question (I would think). So fuck you rm508. I'm an American but I render the composer the respect he deserves.
