描述
Henrys Dream is a full-scale interactive performance festival that, over the course of three days, will set the scene for a new fictional society and community. The festival area is set to be a parallel universe with its own rules, aesthetics and social patterns. Festival guests will be confronted with rules, with the purpose of involving them in the festival culture. They will also bear responsibilities that will help strengthen the interactive element of the festival.
The musical parts of the festival will merge with the performative elements and the installation work. The idea is to challenge both the current performance- and concert setups and create a new way of experiencing the two art forms. The audience will in this format be challenged in relation to their way of perceiving and interacting with the music - and most important in their understanding of how it can be shared.
The musicians who are attending the festival will also act as performers and therefore become actors in the universe that Henrys Dream creates. The traditional concert form is transformed, and the audience can no longer remain silent, as their reaction to the musicians' performances becomes an interaction and redefinition of rituals and behaviours in relation to concert form.
This year's festival concept is to collect dreams and construct each installation around those, so the festival as a whole becomes a landscape of dreams - visually and auditory. The subconscious landscape is an exploration of the forgotten man. An artistic statement that in an aesthetic way starts a dialogue, challenging the concepts for productivity and efficiency in our society and questions the zombie mentality of our civilization.
The festival will be presented as a parallel universe, creating a ritual framework for the guests to be a part of, and thereby become 'Dreamers'.
The interactive performance design for Henrys Dream will refer to a performance tradition, also including Living Structures (UK), Punchdrunk (UK), Instituttet (SE) og SIGNA (DK). A time-, human-, and site-specific total installation, which is, however, different from the above mentioned by manoeuvring more on the border between fiction and reality.
The goals of the festival
o To innovate and challenge existing art forms, and create a different set of rules for interpretation.
o To create an interactive and equal relationship between guests and performers.
o To create a border district between fiction and reality.
Rules and mantra 2013
In order to avoid habitual thinking and a stereotype view of the overall festival concept, we have put together a set of rules for the team behind Henrys Dream to operate by. Some examples of this includes that the festival should not be located in the same spot two years in a row, guests do not have the knowledge of the location before they arrive at the area by bus, it is not possible to leave the festival during the three days, and guests must participate in collective rituals.
Among the specific initiatives undertaken at the festival in 2013 is the "heart" of the festival; a techno house that will be playing 24 hours a day from the beginning of the festival to the very end. Tama Sumo, DJ at Berghain in Berlin and the Danish house collective “Vektor” will be the curators of the scene. The art collective “Syg Nok Rekords “ will also be a part of Henrys Dream, where they will build a sound temple that will be operating during the entire festival and thus provide a framework for musical experimentation.
Henrys Dream is by the organizers verbalized as an experiment and a great work of art, where musicians and performers interact within the staged frameworks.
The festival is a confrontation with the classical sender/receiver relationship seen in concerts worldwide.
The international art groups contributing to Henrys Dream will continuously be published on henrysdream.dk.
