Based in Denver, Colorado, PICTUREPLANE resides in the notorious rave-punk-house Rhinoceropolis. Thanks in large part to Pictureplane’s legendary shows at Rhino, his raging club night, “Real is a Feeling”, and his constant stream of mixtapes and remixes, Denver’s vibrant DIY scene has started to morph into a national movement.

PICTUREPLANE’s growing influence can be felt in ways that are both trivial — he coined the ridiculous genre term “Witch House” in 2009 — and significant: Pictureplane’s punk rock-like approach to the production and dissemination of his work is democratizing electronic music the same way the Ramones, Minor Threat, and Black Flag liberated rock music in the 70s and 80s.

PICTUREPLANE has managed to make electronic music deeply emotive–a synthesis of the human and the machine both in lyrics and sound.

The guy has true production and compositional skills and has found a uniquely compelling way to merge a deep blend house, noise, synth pop, darkwave, psychedelia, world music, and trippy new age space-time theories into emotionally compelling soundscapes.

ROMY released two pretty huge house jams this year. ‘Home’ and ‘Elixir’ embodied and embraced everything that’s wonderful about classic 90′s house music.

Introducing ROLAND TINGS, the alias of Melbourne’s Rohan Newman. Tings joins a cast of international bound Australian electronic producers, having released his debut EP on influential LA outsider dance label 100% Silk earlier this year.

Using recognisable motifs collaged together to form a warped, bubbling take on classic house sounds, the four track journey takes in celestial keys, acidic basslines and plenty of jacking 707 sequences. It captures the primal punch of a bygone era, the sweat and grind of a 1987 warehouse rave, re-imagined with the sheen that only 2012 can provide. Ultimately designed to move bodies in mass, the tracks have wormed their way into clubs across Melbourne, Paris, Brooklyn, Manchester and beyond via disconcerning DJs Tornado Wallace, Alexis Le-Tan, Marcos Cabral and Ruf Dug.

In an era where too much EDM is performed by pre-programmed knob-twitching wallpaper, TINGS conducts dancefloors with an energised show that weaves visceral live drum machines and consuming synthscapes. Live highlights to date include a string of parties across Japan, a summertime jaunt through Europe where he headlined Berlin’s underground institution Loftus Hall and packed out a gig at the legendary Club Moog in Barcelona, and shared bills with local and international favourites Lovefingers, Sapphire Slows, D’eon, plus Puro Instinct, Forces & No Zu as part of Melbourne Music Week 2012.

ROLAND is currently in the studio working on new mutations for 100% Silk and Animals Dancings’ impending imprint. Chaotic energy flashes, white rasta dub and Gottsching-esque ambient pulses.
