the time it took me to respond to you doesn't support this, but i actually visit this site multiple times every day... if nothing else just to see my album cover image change, haha. perhaps there'll be more actual "activity" from me with the spotify integration, though. we'll see, i'm still learning how to integrate spotify into my usual listening, to be honest

i can totally see that! afraid it's been my tumblr icon for the last year and a half though so not exactly. funny you mention it, i was thinking last night i should recommend this Perturbator stuff to you - if you dig the Kavinsky, i think you'll dig this too ( i only really know Terror 44, but i'm grabbing the others there post-haste): http://perturbator.bandcamp.com/

I'm definitely still processing the new Dylan. I like it so far, but I'm not sure yet how deep I'm going to go with it. For me, the key later0day album is 'Love & Theft' much more than Time Out of Mind. I'll take Dylan's cracked and muddy-caked production over Lanois's sepia tones any day. 'L&T' just zings with life. But yeah, Modern Times didn't hit me nearly as hard, and I pretty much ignored the last one, mainly because he farmed out so many of the lyrics to Robert Hunter. And I gotta say, I loved the Christmas record!

i think what you said about that type of music being somewhat insincere comes pretty close to it for me, man. not that i'm saying sincerity is the most important thing, either. now, that Kurt Vile record you just listened to, that's sincere. i've been really into that record, it'll wind up fairly high in my year-end reckoning, i expect. if i manage to even make a list this year, that is

haha well played. it'd been a long time since i'd listened to that comp, and i was struck by how horrifically bland most of it is, especially given how much air time it got back in the day... i'm glad my tastes have continued to grow. at least my copy skipped throughout the Indigo Girls track. *shudder*

Yeah, the Danava is great; put it back into rotation and let me know if you agree. 18 Sokokis burned down last Friday (or burned enough that it's considered a total loss). Weird-- lots of good memories created at that place.

Sounds like we might have approached Trev's and SD's best of '08 windfall in reverse order. Lots of great stuff there-- really been enjoying the stuff SD had to share. Super!

would love to hear what you think of that Irepress record. i've been coming back to that one with regularity since early in the year. definitely going to wind up pretty high on my list. and the Arbouretum one as well, for that matter. such regal, stately guitar lines on that record.

yeah, kind of bad late-period stuff, too. it was that era that i first got into with them, sure, but damn most of that stuff post, i don't know, '81 maybe - although there are exceptions - is so forgettable. makes me want to play Rubycon at high volume or Electronic Meditation on headphones as the hour hand starts falling down the right side of the dial...

Nebula have actually been around for quite a while--their stoner rock roots run pretty deep. Loved them early in the decade and saw them a handful of times--they always put on a blazing show. I stopped paying close attention to them for a while but have been rediscovering them over the past couple of months. I don't know the new album very well yet--if you don't already have it, find their BBC Sessions disc (Sludge Swamp posted it last fall or winter). It's awesome! I'm definitely looking forward to seeing them in a couple of weeks.

Yes you did, and out of everything you recommended, they were the band I liked the most. I don't mind long songs if there are lyrics or something going on, like with Wilco (when they aren't jamming). I have a short attention span and can't handle jam bands or most jazz. I appreciated the recommendations.
