I agree, this place is not the same at all. The new layout has seemed to take all of the social connectivity away. I used to really enjoy writing journals and messaging back and forth between users. At one time, I used spend more time on here than I did on Facebook, MySpace (back in the good old days) or any other social media platform. Anyways, I've been a little disappointed with this year as far as great albums goes. Nothing seems to blow me away like they used to. Maybe you're right, maybe we're getting old. I did really enjoy the new Converge, not my favorite of theirs, but really good nonetheless. Looks like you're already on the new Mutoid Man and All Pigs Must Die, both were really good too. I was also pleasantly surprised by the new Quicksand album. They were one of my favorite bands growing up. Some unknowns or stuff you may not have heard that I liked too are albums from Elder, Forming the Void, Ire Wolves, Oceanic, and Path of Might.

Heh, no problem. And thanks a ton! Your charts are seriously impressive. Yeah, every OMG has been a grower so far, my favorite would have to be a tie between NO and Christmas. I've heard both of the new albums once and dug both of them, but I seriously need to revisit them. They actually announced a West-Coast tour awhile ago I think with no opening bands. Sadly, their show in my city is 21+, for no good reason at all.

I definitely don't think Bloodmines is as great as Bushcraft but I do really like it. Vistas and Calling are awesome songs. I agree that this year has been kind of a let down as far as good heavy albums go. That Generation of Vipers is a must. The [artist]Helms Alee[/artist] album is solid. I don't know if you're familiar with [artist]Nero Di Marte[/artist] but they have a new one that's pretty good. I also came across a heavy sludgey band called [artist]Mursa[/artist] that also released a pretty good one. Also a chaotic hardcore punk band called [artist]run with the hunted[/artist] that I'm also really digging. How about you?

Ah, okay. I usually tend to gravitate toward the "non-traditional" spectrum of the genre. The classic approach has a place for me, too, but not as often. Who are some of your favorite black metal bands?

I know you said you were looking for black metal that's not boring, well, I think you might enjoy Lantlôs. Specifically, Agape. It brings in some outside influences that the band wasn't doing prior to that album. If you check it out, let me know what you think. :)

Glad you're enjoying them! Death Beat is a pretty sick album, they made a video for one of the songs off it using MS Paint, it still makes me laugh even though I've watched it multiple times. You're right.. It was cryptic, intentionally cryptic ;) Josh Scogin from The Chariot has started a new project 68 which is very reminiscent of The Black Keys. He had only released the first song a few days prior to you having a massive Black Keys sesh haha.

Right, okay! Boxing Day here seems to just mean everyone rushes to the malls and main city hubs to buy everything on sale. I didn't really know there was another tradition behind it, but that makes sense, with the name and all! Yeah, hecklers are pretty rude, regardless of your feelings to the band, they're just trying to perform for fans, and maybe earn a few more in the process. Gaza are sick though, what a jerk. I've endured many bands I dislike in order to maintain a front row spot or something, but I show respect at least. I'm not an M. Ward fan, for example, but he's a pretty freakin' good guitarist. I liked the first(?) BMTH album, but the novelty wore off pretty fast. I wasn't too interested when I saw them, but they WERE opening for Static-X, DevilDriver, Lacuna Coil and Megadeth, so I suppose it was an odd choice for opening band.

What does said Boxing Day thing entail? Colors and Alaska are killer albums, I have to agree with you there. I really liked The Great Misdirect too, Fossil Genera - A Feed From Cloud Mountain is a fantastic song. Geez, they cut a set short just because of that? I saw Bring Me The Horizon YEARS ago and they were being booed by many metalheads for ages before storming off. They weren't very good... All's well on this end, it's currently really damn hot and my pup is not enjoying it. He needs a clip methinks.

You're seeing BTBAM? I've missed them every single time they've been here. I've either been sick, or broke, or doing something else the same night... It's a shame. How've you been?

I think you will appreciate TROB if you need BM that doesn't follow the mold. Oranssi Pazuzu's Valonielu I've only listened to twice but definitely seems to have some longevity about it, and might also spark your interest.Wormed's Exodromos is also one of the more interesting death metal albums I've come across. Hard to put my finger on, but there's something different about it.

I'm tempted to say try Unlock the Shrine first for TROB, because it's rather interesting to watch the progression. It's also how I started with the band. Rain Upon the Impure is the least accessible because of the intentionally bad production, or good production, depending on who you ask. Personally, I feel the production makes the album sound very subterranean and more sinister. Lastly, there's the album that has the word "semen" in the title. Definitely the easiest to get into of the three, yet still very very complex, and it is my current favorite. It also sounds the best and brings the doom influence front and center for the first time. Hope that helps.

Haha, I guess I've stopped noticing how strange the juxtaposition of some bands are on my lists. :) I'm kind of working my way backwards with The National at this point. So, High Violet is next up. Boxer was actually the first of their albums I tried getting into but for whatever reason couldn't at the time. And I've heard great things about Alligator.

I'd put Tim Hecker and The Ruins of Beverast high on your radar. Their new albums aren't their best albums, but are still both very good. Have you heard their previous albums?

Also, why did you LOL when you said The National? :/

Even though I liked the Ulcerate album, I can't help feeling that they're coming close to stagnation. Vermis wasn't as much of a leap as The Destroyers of All was, for me, and felt more like a retread of that album and Everything is Fire rolled into one, but with less interesting things happening. Maybe the biggest problem I have with them now though is the vocals. They're boring and so monotonous. I have no idea what the solution to that might be.
