i don't know that i'm particularly schooled in all things electronica, but i will defend the Punk to the death, as they opened a lot of doors for ME, persaonally into a genre that i otherwise might never have explored, a genre that now includes some of my favorite bands; i'm a "there's no such thing as shitty music taste" kind of person: i hate seeing bands getting hated on, period, but i really hate seeing GREAT bands getting hated on, lulz. :]

RHCP are heavily influenced and integrate a lot of funk into their songs. They may not be out-right funk themselves, but its just their take on it.

If you're looking for something similar to the 3rd Degree album, I'll recommend trying Serious Business and Guitar Slinger as well, these three albums Johnny Winter recorded for Alligator are quite similar in style. If you want the classic blues, I'll recommend the Nothin But the Blues album he recorded with Muddy Waters' band. That one's pure blues... Have fun :)
