Didn't see your comment about R.E.M.'s "Hairshirt" until now. Can't say I am a huge fan of that one, but I actually made a Top 20 list before Thanksgiving break on Spotify and found it very difficult. Hey, Lee! Yes, I did get that Gas Giants CD. But because of the terrible way I listen to music these days, I am not sure I ever heard the whole thing. I'll try to get back to that one soon.

I am using a SwapaCD credit to get that Gas Giants CD. It better be good. :) I am going to stream most of the other stuff you mentioned....they didn't have that one.

I streamed both those albums on a free trial with MOG. They also scrobble to last.fm. The Lewis Duckworth Method has been on my radar for awhile. I really love the song "The Age of Revolution." One of the guys is from the band Pugwash, who you will also want to check out. I THINK he sings the better of the songs on the album, as I find some too goofy. Not sure where I heard about the Silver Seas.

Regarding your alt-country question, yes, I do like most bands in the genre, if not all their songs. Old 97's is definitely one, as well as the Jayhawks and good ole Wilco (who have not done much for me lately). Do Band of Horses fall in that category too?

"White City" is a great album. Never get tired of it. Sad that back then you could find it in bargain bins everywhere. As a musician, that must be a great feeling. No.

The only one I personally own (and it was actually merely given to me by someone who didn't care for it) is "Mr. Buechner's Dream." I'm listening to some of the older ones thanks to those old music blogs. It's brilliant... I really want to track down actual copies of this stuff.

Rick Altizer's "Scripture Memory" is one catchy CD. I had that in my car for the longest time and finally decided it was time to replace it. Or wait....did I? Anyway, great album.
