Surprisingly, there were no masks involved, but it was pretty kick-ass nonetheless. There were four other openers besides Woods who where booked last-minute, who ranged from mediocre to godawful. Blank Dogs finally went on at like 1am. Mr. Blank Dogs turned out to be a dude who sort of looked like a young Telly Savalas, who had just been chilling in the audience with everyone else while the other bands were playing. The band was him on guitar, another guitarist, a bassist, drummer, and keyboardist. The songs sound much punchier and more rocking when done live, in a good way.

No, I have not heard of Captain Beefheart's involvement, though that would make sense. I actually haven't even listened to that much of Residents (I have "Eskimo" and "Duck Stab"), though I ought to, especially being San Francisco born and raised.

I must say I'm jealous; I think Germany probably beats a Blank Dogs show in Pittsburgh. I'm definitively curious as to how Blank Dogs will translate live, seeing as the whole 'secret identity' thing is such a big component. Well, I guess the Residents have pulled it off for 30 years, after all.
