Yes yes! The trial on my phone ran out the other month and I decided I want to have it all the time. I'm going to try and be on here a lot more too. I use it quite often for finding or selling gig tickets. I just graduated on Monday with a first so pretty chuffed :-) hows things your end? I see you've had a bit of time for photography recently.

Look up the word FOCUS in the dictionary.Look at the top tracks played on last.fm for 6music or the BBC site - compare alot of them with what's been played on R1, R2 & commercial radio. No problem with Death Cab for Cutie, TV on the radio & Beastie Boys as they are not played that much in the mainstream.Arctic Monkeys , Friendly Fires (indie???disco, R1), Noah & the whale (R1, R2), Foo Fighters Aloe Blacc (neo-soul - R1Xtra, R2 soul show, perhaps should be played on the 6musics funk & soul show) etc. etc.FOCUS FOCUS - understand. I'm a trip hop fan like yourself. Why doesn't 6music FOCUS on more of that for example - it does not get so much airtime on radio anymore. Why so many mainstream artists which if you read the remit is not what it's all about. If you want to reply, you can.Won't reply again - you can have the last say if you want.

Extract from aims & objections section Its music should focus on major artists and material which do not receive much support from other radio stations - does 6music do that i.e. NOT pop music (other stations focus on what's popular / commercial). There are alot of major artists who are not pop or commercial oriented - this is why the station was set up & nearly got closed down due to the fact that they weren't following their remit.BBC shouldn't need more than 2 pop stations the closier report said, even though 6music's focus, seems to be, slightly alternative pop at the moment. BTW - I don't hate 6music - but it could be so much better if they actually followed their remit closer. If you don't agree with what I've said - it's obvious you didn't read through all the regulatory framework document - so I'll leave it at that.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/bbctrust/assets/files/pdf/regulatory_framework/service_licences/radio/2008/6music_Apr08.pdf I think you should read 6music's actual remit (above). Not what you think it is, or what the DJ's on 6music think it is.It is about playing music that is not played on other mainstream stations or music that was popular at least 4 years ago but is not played on the radio any more.It is NOT a pop (including Indie pop) station or not supposed to be anyway. The Foo Fighters (they are a metal / heavy rock band) + all their other favourites (The Vaccines) etc. who are getting alot of airplay on other mainstream stations are not part of their remit. If they do play these artists they should play alternative tracks that are not played on these other stations at least.

You say 6music isn't a rock station.Which I agree with to a certain extent. It's a pop station with guitars mainly. Therefore the you are down to what's offered on Radio 1 & the classic rock that's on Radio 2 + the non-mainstream rock stations. No wonder rock music is struggling to get any attention. The Indie scene is dying because it has become derivative or too pop (or electronic based even).Alternatively newer, more innovative forms of rock have no presence at all.Isn't this a definate part of 6music's remit to bring fresher rock sounds to the public.

XL are not really that Indie though are they. They pump more money behind their artists than the Major labels do - a highly commercialised label.I don't really both that much what label they are on that much (although it does make a difference quite often).I'm more interested in the musical output.Adele latest album is mostly MOR southern / country soul - not a genre you would normally associate with Indie (in it's Indie label or Indie type of music sense). 6music's output has become very narrow.Mostly early '80's music & music that has derived from that + grunge, garage rock revival.Thing is I don't particularly like the more extreme end of metal & the classic rock stations have become a bit boring & are not mainstream. There's alot of interesting rock music that falls inbetween those types of formats, which is fairly popular but doesn't get played on radio. The point I was making that 6music, if you look at it's remit carefully, should definately be playing this type of music.

The BBC are supposed to be funded by the tax payer - not the wealthy labels. If we can't really on the BBC to give an objective opinion on what is the best rock music that is around then who is going to do that.Have you noticed rock is struggling in the UK.Don't you think it's got something to do with the over commercialised media we have over here.Play the what's out there & let the public decide what's good & bad, why are they ramming down our knecks derivative stuff the larger labels want to sell to us - which doesn't seem to be working that well anyway. If it was commercial radio I would understand.BBC - not at all.Thank god we've got the internet.

Cheers for that mate. It ain't like I weren't telling the truth though. Read your response to that dippy kopgirl. Popularity is acheived when enough stupid people follow with out question. But when the truth is laid bare before them, as in Coldplay are quite shit, they don't like it. Sod em anyway. At least you seem to have taste in music. Even if it is slightly more eclectic than mine.
