so, from an old guy to a young guy, taking into account the differences in our tastes: Dave Douglas, Woody Shaw, Marcus Belgrave, Longineau Parsons. Also consider: Alan Shorter, Phil Cohran Artistic Heritage Ensemble. All of these are trumpet, cornet, or fluegelhorn. I probably listen to Miles more than any other trumpeter, but I also go in big for Don Cherry and Lester Bowie, who are kind of at the other end of the spectrum from Hubbard/Clifford Brown, etc. Good listening!
