Ok, as to your NYE suggestion question: there will be lots of parties, but tickets need to be bough well in advance. All pubs will ask for a door fee, so barhopping can turn out to be very expensive. There should be some sites that have a list of parties on the night, I'd check them out and choose one or two, book tickets, hey presto!
