To me it sounded more like the Jonsi & Alex album than a Sigur Ros album. It's going to be interesting to see how they perform those songs live... I'm surprised John Smith isn't more well known and that I'd never heard of him before given how long he's been around. Either he needs a better record label, or else he likes it that way :)

Lisa was great and John Smith really impressed me! He did his own set to open then played as part of her band. Valtari wasn't what I was hoping for which was something more like ( ). But I will judge it properly after more listens as one wasn't enough. What did you think?

I haven't even bought it yet. I didn't like the tracks I heard in advance and nothing made me think they have moved in a new direction. I used to listen to John Mayer in the past but not for a long time until I rediscovered a few songs on shuffle recently. I'm not a massive fan, but he does write the occasional great tune.

Indeed! I saw them support This Will Destroy You then a few weeks ago, then again last week at their own gig. Not bad at all :)

That's how I feel really. There is a good song in there, once again it's just hiding behind Jacknife Lee's over the top production.

Codex is the stand-out track for me so far, but that's probably because it's the least experimental and most accessible song. With Radiohead albums though my initial favourite songs rarely end up being my long term favourites and other songs take a long time to get inside your head.

It's the most experimental they've been since Kid A so I think it will alienate people as well as attracting them. But I'm loving it so far! (Though did you expect any different?)

Yes I'm counting down the days already! New albums by Mogwai AND Radiohead in the same week.....I think my head is going to explode!!!

It was focussing on the Dublin music scene so all of the acts were Southern. As for the North owning Irish music right now I'd saw And So I Watch You From Afar are the best example, but there are a few others and General Fiasco are also making a name for themselves in the UK.

I had the radio on during the weekend and they were playing songs by the best new Irish artists and rather depressingly he was the best of a bad bunch. It seems for once Northern Ireland is owning Irish music at the moment :)

I found out about him at the weekend and thought he soudned similar to some of the artists we listen too :)
