Hello..."BlackBird" is digital available > This song includes typical blues & rock elements. The lyrics reproach the leaders and their work and demand all common people to move on. The Bird is the sensible indicator of environment and a confident call for action too -"the world is going mad - with little wings you can touch the sky … move on" ... [ Available on iTunes, Qobuz , amazon ... Drumandvoice - BlackBird / Crystal Creek / Like A Dream / Time to Realize/Seven Days] > best regards H. :)

The Dark Knight – Actually, I do prefer sad endings over happy endings. In fact, there’s one Gene Kelly movie that I would’ve given a 9/10 rating that was eventually spoiled by the last minute happy ending (I won’t reveal what that movie is unless you ask). So, when I saw the downward spiral of the various characters in the Dark Knight, I was quite pleased as it appealed to that nihilist/anarchist rotten-to-the-core ne'erdowell in me. That said, I do think that there was some redemption so to speak in that Batman voluntarily chose to establish that relationship between him and the public at large for the benefit of people. A self-sacrifice if you will. Also, there was that scene with the two boats. I think those elements complemented the general darkness of the movie rather well. My two cents. ;)

LOL -- Of course, a play and movie based on ABBA eventually did come to fruition so there perhaps is hope. Indeed, maybe I’ll grab the bull by the horn myself. Clack away on the laptop, and then lob a few of my Wham! based samurai screenplays at a unsuspecting studio bigwigs doing their power lunches on the Sunset strip. The worst they could say is no. But on the off chance… :P

Oh, in regards to your Dark Knight review, you said this: "it is also rare in happily bringing the central characters way down...and leaving them there." I'm not exactly sure I get what you mean. Clarification requested por favor. And FWIW, it's my favorite of the year as well although I'd go so far as to give it 4.5 stars myself. And something that may be of interest to you perhaps. Currently, IIDB lists the Dark Knight as the most highly rated movie of all time according to its users' ratings. Still the "honeymoon" phase, I reckon, but it certainly does reflect the near unanimity of the appreciation of that movie.

You mean to tell me that there's someone out there who loves Wham! AND Seven Samurai?! We truly were separated at birth! :P

Oh, hey, I got through Firefly. Sorry to disappoint you, dude, but some of the luster wore off as the series went along for me. Good series for sure, but not as super spectacular as I'd hoped. Have you watched Battlestar Galactica? It is teh awesome IMO.

I'm still fumbling around like a klutz. I did notice your "Loved" tracks. It's something I've never noticed before. Cool stuff to look at. I haven't filled in mine yet though, but I will. I've also noticed that there isn't the "Dashboard" feature anymore or perhaps I'm just a bit thickheaded today.

Grrr... don't these people know that they're dealing with one VERY litigious lawyer?! (I know that sounds redundant. It's not :P) I'm thinking punitive damages.

Uncool, man. Very uncool. I am not down with the facelift at all. I'm not opposed to change of course, but I prefer the incremental not the wholesale variety. We put men on the moon. I'm sure they could've figured a better way, dontchatink? ;) And what about this "paragraphs" thing. I don't see them. Well, here goes nothing.

So I got around to watching the pilot episode "Serenity". Wow. Ridiculously awesome. Far far better than I had imagined. Now, I'm all super geeked about watching the rest. Muchas gracias for the recommendation, señor. ;)

Just wanted to make sure there wasn't some prerequisite like a book, graphic novel, comic book, etc. I suppose I could've found out for myself in this Google Age that we live in, but why not get the correct info straight from the expert himself, right? ;) In any event, despite the glowing recommendation, I'm afraid I couldn't take that broad leap of faith by getting the box set just yet, but rest assured, I will watch them on dvd, and report back dutifully. :P

Oh, and btw, I know next to nothing about Firefly except that it has a massive cult-like devotion from its fans. Where shall I start?

I was all motivated to listen to Out of Time again for the first time in literally about 10 years or so, but I came to discover that Out of Time is not part of my collection. I'm so stupefied by that fact given that I was in love with that album for such a long time. This will have to be rectified immediately. p.s. I'm a "So. Central Rain" kinda guy myself. Superb.

I just noticed that you have a higher play count for REM than Moloko, a band that I know you hold in very high regard, and yet, I don't believe I've heard you utter a single word about REM throughout all the times that I've known you. I demand an explanation. :P

Yeah I have, but it hasn't really gripped me the way the other two have. I guess it needs more time... but it's always hard comparing all-time favourites with new material. J5? Again, not as good later on, but worth checking out.

I must admit that I thought it was quite bizarre that you were recommending a track from a kid's movie, but that track is surprisingly good. How many of the tracks on that movie are like that?

Alrighty. I put up a massively long new thread in the HH section here. Also, I've got questions of my own so this all will probably result in a massively long discussion. Oh, the cross we bear. :P

Hey dude. Pardon the tardiness of my response. I just got back in town from my friend's wedding. It was a blast. :) But in any event, I do have LOTS to say about KROQ as I listened to that very influential radio station every chance I could get during its peak years of around '79-'90. I will report back shortly. ;)

In the case of 'Blue', I think the minimalist approach works really well because I find that it accentuates my perception of the rather strong emotions of that album. But regardless of my own impressions, I wish to tempt you with AMG 's rating of 5-stars for that album, as well as their comment, 'Blue' remains a waterwhed. Strong stuff. If that doesn't work, bribery is not beneath me. ;)

That's funny you say that because I hate the album version. When I ripped that cd onto my computer, I deleted that song, and replaced it with a version that I liked much better.

Never been to Spain. The only places in Europe that I've been to are Paris and Amsterdam (like a typical American tourist :P). But I'd like to go to Spain though. It's fairly high on the list.

...and yeah Ghibli soundtracks are widely available, I'm sure. No real interest myself though, to be honest. Only soundtracks I can recall enjoying are the Cowboy Bebop guys - Seatbelts, and some stuff with that Russian singer off Ghost in the Shell.

Channel H is probably the most accessible, and recent. One nice point is their albums have amazingly good accompanying DVDs containing bizarre animation and remixes - the Channel H DVD is 60mins of 'channel hopping' on the best late-night show that never existed. Fresh Push Breakin' is their other main album AFAIK.

We'll make great pets. Yeah, solid track. I'm glad you approve. I might've had to question our friendship if your conclusions were otherwise. :p But overall, they are to Jane's Addiction what the Wings were to the Beatles. It's been proven scientifically.

That you may have issues with her voice presents as a serious obstacle. Nevertheless, here are two tubes of theirs in which you could get a better sample: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x52w8txtiQs and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x

Never heard of them. I listened to some snippets on this site, but obviously, it's not enough. It does have nice beats from what I can gather. And apparently, one of those dudes is from De La Soul, which certainly gives them at least some credibility in terms of music in spite of the parody nature of their work. Do you recommend an album? And if so, which?
