Hiya! Sure, there was a lot happening all over the world in the 60's and I suppose that a lot of people saw western rock music as a tool for individual expression. Especially the younger generation who wanted to rebel against strict authorities. I'm not sure why I like 60's and 70's music so much, maybe it has more "Spirit", "Soul" and energy than recent music. I think old Enka has a lot of spirit too, but in a much more structured and formal way.

Excellent question, it's one that I've asked people from non-western countries about, how groups like the Beatles were seen by people living countries that had distinctly different music than the west. Were the Beatles seen as mysterious or exotic foreigners back then? I suppose it's only a question that your Grandfather could answer as western style music is now so familiar and played all over the world. Most of the Japanese music I listen to has a strong western influence so it doesn't sound too strange to my ears. Only Enka and more traditional Japanese music sounded a little mysterious to me to start with. Now I'm beginning to appreciate it much more for the beautiful singing, musicianship and the emotions that it creates in me. I do love the Japanese aesthetics for the artwork created for these old recordings too, they make me feel very happy! Much nicer than a lot of what's created nowadays! p.s. your English is far better than my Japanese! :D

And thank you for accepting (^^) Lol, I'm not sure how much I can teach you about Japanese oldies (although I do listen to a them a lot), I'm still discovering new ones all the time. I've only been listening to 60's & 70's Japanese music for the last few years so I still have much to learn myself! :D
