Naww, it's okay - you must've been super super busy trying to see everyone in such a short amount of time. When are you back in England this year? I will descend upon you asap x

thanks for the REM advice. yeah the actual topic of my diss was an analysis of the ways in which he represents American working-class culture. The first half was basically a comparison with Dylan (and how he "filled a void" that Dylan left, that was where the transcendentalist stuff came in, in that it was social songs but in a different context to Dylan's) and the second half was an analysis of the Born in the USA album.

btw, I've just looked at your tumblr, pretty cool stuff! i've just done my dissertation on Bruce (got a 2.1 yay!) and I talked briefly about how the first three albums were influenced by Transcendentalism! was really satisfying to get the grade I just didn't know if it was any good haha

Yeah I'm puzzled as to why it wasn't on their best of album. When I first found it a few days ago I just put it on loop like crazy haha

Oh I'm so glad! I gave ole Mason Jennings a listen and very much enjoyed it. For The Avetts, I'd suggest Mignonette (as I believe there's some harmonica action) and Emotionalism is another favourite of mine.

Regarding your comment for Janis Ian's "At Seventeen," I'm 37, and people can still be shallow, but life has gotten better. The perspective of time has helped much in that process. Hang in there. :-)

You know what I just did? THE MATH. It turns out that, at our current rates of listening, it will take you somewhere in the region of 811 days to catch me up. To take it one step further, that means you will catch me up on the 18th of September 2012. MATH'D.

No way, m'dear! You've always been far higher up the cool-o-meter than me, I just listen to music of pretentious soddery, hah!
