oh man I just noticed this comment. kind of a tough question to answer, because it's a p. diverse genre. say "math rock" these days and you're mostly talking about odd-timed clean-toned noodling don cab/hella wannabes, many of whom are dense and unlistenable. i'm just starting to get into the poppier side of that stuff, and tera melos is pretty hype but also pretty awesome. and marnie stern is another hella protege but she has a soft spot in my heart because she's a goddamn amazing songwriter. more classic mathy stuff is like shellac and bastro and polvo and rodan and the first slint album and a lot of stuff that rob crow did. basically guitar dweebs who smoked a lot of weed and listened to a lot of king crimson when they were young. rob crow is great. you should get the Other Men album Wake Up Swimming because it's like the tightest model of a math rock album I can think of. and the best albums from those dudes i mentioned.

well actually I'd say Magic Potion is probably their most "polished" sounding album, and they got a bit grungier after that again. Their first three albums have a very similar sound to each other and their sound probably changed the most between Rubber Factory and Magic Potion and then again from Magic Potion to Attack and Release. on the whole, though, I love pretty much everything they've made and you can't go wrong starting anywhere.

goddamn. if you're thinking of seeming them live, you'd probably want to check out their latest albums (El Camino and Brothers) since I imagine they'll play a lot of stuff from those. I'm a big fan of their first album, The Big Come Up, which is their grungiest album by far. Their sound has gotten a bit cleaner over the years, but in a good way.

I need to watch the American Werewolf series again. Last night I listened to Danny Brown - XXX and that's an awesome album. I'm listening to Capitalist Casualties right now and they're alright if you're into powerviolence/hardcore punk.

Imo Kingdom of Welcome Addiction is the best album with The Alternative at a close second I'd start with those two. Kiss+Swallow is good but is more raw. Volatile Times is a different beast It took me a few listens to appreciate it.

Glad you like it. One of my favorite albums of all time, I ended up taking a break of sorts from it for a while but recently started listening again. His other albums aren't as good in my opinion but they're still worthy of your time.

Jane Doe is definitely my favorite, but Axe to Fall is much more accessible. They're both pretty harsh on the ears at first though. Hope you get some enjoyment out of them!

Hahah yeah! I started to use last.fm again 2 weeks ago and i forgot to reset it, so i decided to create this new one. I have both MSTRKRTF album and almost all their remixes. I think it's hard to say which one is better, cause i like both a lot, but i recommend The Looks :-) but Fist Of God is as good at least.

Haha sorry about that i didn't answer, but i deleted the old one and created new account. But i feel same about AVD than you! That 70's/funk/italo is not my "thing" but i like it, because it's creative and they created something "new and different". And i think it's useless even to compare Cross to AVD, because so different styles, but both good. Like you said, Total is better to people, who wanted a new Cross :)

Just download his two Pilot Talk mixtapes and Verde Terrace. I didn't like them at first but after catching a few nice tracks it just hit me. He's not the best rapper or my favorite but I find that no matter what situation I'm in, his music is great background music. It's just so smooth.

I haven't even heard Ovals & Emeralds, but from what I'm hearing (through samples) is it's very similar to Hand Cranked or Vignetting The Compost, kinda this old-timey 'sepia' folktronica that sounds like it was carefully made to sound incredibly old. I have to admit, though, that's not what got me interested in Bibio. On Ambivalence Avenue he has such a dizzying variety it's amazing that it's even the same artist. He gets a lot funkier, a lot more beat oriented, just an all-around better musician and producer. He keeps a couple folky things that sound like his earlier work but he really spreads his wings. That album is definitely one of my all-time favorites, I just never get tired of it. Highly recommended.

I love Jacques Brel but he isn't as firmly grounded in pop music as Gainsbourg is. I'd give his album Quand On N'a Que L'amour a shot if you're willing to put up with a bit more of a classic chanson sensibility. For more pop-like musicians I'd look into Jacques Dutronc and Joe Dassin. And if you aren't too put off by silly cute French chicks definitely check out France Gall, Francoise Hardy, and Jane Birkin.

I'd start off with Blood Mountain probably it's the best of their catalogue in my opinion. If you dig that try Remission and Leviathan if you want more of heavy sludge sound, or Crack the Skye if you want a more progressive epic sound. The Hunter is a mix between the all the albums to be honest
