I've already downloaded some Ogives, Gymnopedies and Sarabandes and added them to my playlist. If I should hate them, I'll definitely lay the blame on you. :p As for Elend, many people love only their first 4 albums and ignore the rest. I'm afraid I'm one of them. I've tried listening to one or two of their more recent works and found them too loud and even disturbing for my taste. On the other hand, I'm open to new experiences, so give me a song you like.

That's a really fair assessment! (regarding Katatonia) As for Om, let me put it this way... after hearing only 4 songs, I bought all of their albums and put them into my 'Featured Library' thumbnails :) I also RSVP'd to a concert they'll be having here in two weeks. Towards their earlier albums, I realized they're not the perfect fit to sustain / remain in my Top 8 artists, but they will be a part of my night time rotations for sure! YOB's new album is excellent too! and I just bought 26 hours of Sunn O))) haha! As for classical, I believe I'm ready for some Wagner =)

Do my eyes deceive me? You've not scrobbled Sólstafir? Or you have, but deleted them, or some other possibility? If you've not heard Ótta, you absolutely MUST... it's in my top 10 albums of all time list, near the top, amongst Pink Floyd :) https://solstafir.bandcamp.com/album/tta

I think I've got you covered after examining your charts... you listened to some of Katatonia's weaker albums (my opinion) and think you would really enjoy them! Definitely rich sounding, and not directionless. In fact, downright beautiful. I recommend albums such as The Great Cold Distance, Dead End Kings, Dethroned & Uncrowned, Night is the New Day, and Deliberation. There's even more than this, plenty to enjoy. I saw them live in concert same night as Opeth by the way, as most Opeth fans also love Katatonia!

Thanks to you, most of my 'yesterday' was filled with Arvo Pärt :) Some really, really exciting compositions! And also, the ability to evoke complex emotions from elusively 'simple' progressive patterns. And yet, his strings can be as intense (or more) than black metal I've heard. That's simply amazing: I failed to find the song/passage that made my ears perk straight up, but it was nothing short of pure violence and gave me chills, haha. Also, a little known fact, I was in a chamber choir back in school which competed (and won our state championship - I have a funny story about stage fright and forgetting my 30 second latin solo lyrics until moments before walking on stage, well, I just told it, but that was the state championship at stake!)...anyway, I found very familiar landscapes with songs like Kyrie :) It is a very long playlist that I will happily hear again, thank you!

So! Pale Communion... I hesitate to critique it until I've heard it a few more times. I suppose the enjoyment will vary based on the expectations and mood brought into it, like anything else. Yes, I'm afraid to type any more than this, haha! I know that it will shuffle nicely into a huge Opeth playlist, and add texture that wasn't there before. Arvo Pärt is very beautiful, from what I've heard on youtube...I must listen to more!

I am waiting for the right mood to hear Pale Communion for the first time, keeping expectations as neutral as possible (although they are always very high with Opeth...) I love Heritage for its mellow, earthy and yes, verrrrry groovy vibe =) You know, I will have to explore Wintersun further, because I have heard only good things from others. Over a year ago, I heard a track from their latest release and my ears said 'too much synth' or something to that effect, but I will listen to their first release and shuffle away again soon, thanks! I'm always looking for a tasty meal ^__^ Eluveitie is coming to Chicago in a couple of months and I'm pretty excited about seeing them live! Hurdy gurdy and flute time, haha <3

Salute! How have you been? Your charts from the past month indicate you're feeling fine ^^ Whenever I listen to Vàli, I find myself craving more albums. I love those squeaky acoustic guitar strings :3 But a little bit is better than an overdose, like most things. I managed to get away from metal long enough to soak in some Debussy one day; I will try to do more. I'm listening to some new artists as well. It's nice to taste new flavors... Brace yourself for the new Opeth album later this week, I think, right? Hmm! Take care man :)

Ahh - I suspected you'd probably heard it already, those works being among Part's most popular, but I thought they were too good to not risk suggesting ;). As for Leonskaja - I'll admit the only recordings I have of her are Shostakovich's Piano Quintet and the 2nd Trio. I first heard it during a University lecture and was blown away by how much better it was than any other recording I had heard of the piece (which is a favourite of mine), I had to buy the CD right away. I haven't heard her Brahms stuff, I'll check it out on your recommendation... re. Chopin - I find it pretty hard to conclusively choose my favourite interpreters! There are so many nuances that different pianists explore. I can only really choose my favourites for the pieces I play myself - for example Pollini's F minor nocturne. I had never heard Moravec's recordings before - I particularly liked his Op.48/C minor, extremely delicate but still heartfelt, but preferred Polini in the F minor.

Still Life actually remains my favorite, probably followed by Ghost Reveries. Heritage...Oh Heritage. It was the album that basically killed my interest in Opeth...I gave it a chance and I just find nothing appealing about it. It just doesn't work for me. I thought it was because they moved away from growls, but I find Damnation to be decent and I hated Watershed, so I think it's just the general direction they're moving in that doesn't appeal to me. Ah well, we'll always have their older stuff. And I checked out a nocturne by Moravec and I like him, but he plays them a bit faster than I'm accustomed to. For reference, my favorite interpreter of Chopin varies depending on composition (Ballade, etude, nocturne, etc), but for Nocturnes, I'm a Claudio Arrau fan. His were the first renditions I've heard so they just sound "right" to me.

What can I say, Chopin's the man. And nice charts yourself, it's always nice to see two artists like Bach and Opeth so close to each other. Have you listened to much of their pre-Heritage stuff?

I should listen to it again. But my favorite from Agalloch so far is Ashes Against the Grain <3

It seems that we agree with the best Moonsorrow albums. V: Hävitetty is unbelievably good! It's mindblowing. Also Verisäkeet is! I like to say that Moonsorrow don't create songs, they create works of art! Amazing band. I'm in love with Les Discrets since the very first time I listened to them (the same happened when I listened to Moonsorrow the first). I loved the new Alcest album. Délivrance is one of the most beautiful things I ever heard. About the Agalloch... I think I can't tell yet. I listened to it only once or twice. But I'm pretty sure is a good album too! Did you like it?

I've been very tempted to start a vinyl collection, mainly to own all the Summoning albums and admire the amazing artwork! But have restrained myself as it would be slightly redundant...I wouldn't really listen to them much as I do most of my listening whilst on my PC with headphones plugged in...Yourself?

Cheers to you as well! I am honored to be amongst your first choice of last.fm friends, because I find your taste in music quite astonishing! I fully credit Pink Floyd as my entry to deeper music appreciation (I fell asleep listening to Floyd every night as a teenager - it painted so many wonderful dreams) and I played classical guitar and piano for years. I have many classical music scrobbles that I removed long ago to keep my profile more 'metal' but it's all there too; my love for Debussy would find itself similarly close to Floyd, as it is in your overall charts :) But also: Ulver, Summoning, Vàli, Sigur Rós? Yeah, I really like your style! Welcome, my friend =)

Great Summoning playlist :) I would fit in Over Old Hills, Beleriand and A Distant Flame Before The Sun and then it include all my favourites!
