Thanks! Yes, I've seen 'Kimi no Na wa', I really liked it and most of Shinkai Makoto's earlier works. My favorite is still Kumo no mukou yakusoku no basho. His movies tend to have a theme of 'distant love' accompanied with gorgeous background art but Kumo no Mukou was the best movie all-round. I also loved the OST done by Tenmon for kumo no mukou. Did you like 'Your Name'?

I`ve seen those Shinkai`s movies (5 Centimeters Per Second, The Place Promised in Our Early Days & Your Name) on TV around new year days. I love every piece. But My favourite animation movie is Urusei Yatsura series 2. Beautiful Dreamer was directed by Mamoru Oshii . https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LN2DcER0KVk This was made in 1984! I've, unfortunately only seen Urusei Yatsura TV's first 21 episodes and none of the specials or movies yet. But that opening shot you linked looks fantastic! I will have to watch this later on today because that opening is brilliant... Thanks so much for linking me to this. I've watched the first 3 minutes of the movie now; it's already great with the constant cameos of Godzilla, ultraman and some others... I'm not sure what's going on on those stairs :P I don't really remember much about 'Paris, Texas' besides watching it in art class back in high school. It was my art teacher's favorite movie too along with Who Framed Roger Rabbit, lol.

Hello! Akira Kurosawa is great - love his works, mainly for the beautiful transparency of visuals and plots - his works are quite easy to understand. Maybe only some films by Ingmar Bergman impressed me this way. I've watched "Read Beard" - loved the composition: two parts and intermezzo. Why don't the modern directors use intermezzo - such a great and stylish way to show the presence of time in narration. May I recommend you another film, directed by Kurosawa and filmed with Soviet crew? It is called "Dersu Uzala", I used to watch it as a child, guess it was the first time I heard the name Kurosawa. Maybe you will find it enjoyable. Merry Christmas to you!
