So great other than the 97 degree day. Lots of great sets from some excellent bands. Rilo Kiley is one of my favorite bands too, so seeing them again after 17 years was pretty amazing. They were perfect. You are going to have cooler weather for Cruel World- might even need a rain jacket!

Thats awesome. Did you catch Courtney Barnett's set? I freaking love her.. Aaagh I hope it doesn't rain for Cruel World! I have never been to California and I was hoping to catch some sunshine while I am there..

uuurrrgh this is so hard to answer. it kinda depends on what you like. if youre into more straight up rock n roll i would recommend Dig, Lazarus, Dig!!!. id recommend all of Murder Ballads as a great example of how unique his lyrics and storytelling can get. if you want to hear how gorgeous his music can be id recommend starting with the songs Your Funeral, My Trial and The Mercy Seat

check out Goodness- 1995-1998. short lived seattle band and they rocked i think! id also say to check out T. Rex and Jeff Buckley if you havent already. oh and Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds to.

his work from the 90s is severely underrated. the berlin trilogy is perfect. 1977 TOTP version of “Heroes” might be his best pro-shot vocal performance. blackstar freaks me out and i only listen to it on his birthday. if i got to pick a bowie show to go to i would probably pick one from 1983. the remastered “Im Afraid of Americans” music video is insane because it looks like it was made yesterday. labyrinth wasn’t my thing but maybe i need to revisit it and i will have a different opinion. the station to station area was shockingly good despite being fueled by cocaine and milk. wish he did more work with lou reed. wish the fan club pamphlets that come with his vinyl records were actually real. joe the lion and fantastic voyage are two absolutely magical tracks.

aladdin sane is so good. “lady grinning soul” is bizarrely feminine and i dig it. station to station packs a punch with so few tracks. he belted that whole thing out and claimed he didnt remember making it. as you continue your journey i recommend the berling trilogy and Earthling as first priorities. it was big influenced by Trent Reznor and I hate NIN but it is somehow one of my favorite bowie albums.. berlin trilogy is quite the opposite in vibe but i do like it better than Earthling. Lodger is the most ‘rock’ of the three but id have to call the first half of Heroes my favorite because of ‘Sons of the Silent Age,’ ‘Beauty and the Beast,’ and ‘Joe the Lion.’ and theres all the iggy pop and the lou reed stuff that branches out from it. the lou reed album literally called ‘Berlin’ is a great concept album you should check out if you liked Blackstar
