Your comment on Change by tDP (six years ago from 2009!) is spot on. They are these dysfunctional 90s kids in a 2k world ball of nerve and discombobulation and the music perfectly sums up everything about standing on the edge of the new millennium and not being sure you should even be there.

I would go beyond lyricist and say writer. Frankly, the lyrics on Change are significantly better than 90% of the post-millennial fiction that I've read. Too bad his solo album was such a flaming piece of garbage.

its heartbreaking how few people listen to dismemberment plan such an unbelievable band

This Siskiyou lot are really rather magnificent, a seriously special band, they make me melt/swoon completely... there's either a deep and genuine warmth to their music (Funeral Song: "...they will never really now how preciously sweet it is to fly, fly like a ghost..."), a desolate, empty, haunted chill (especially on the Simon & Garfunkl cover), or some magical combination of the two that loses none of hte potency of those extremes. I've only heard four songs but I think I'm in love... [see here: http://www.myspace.com/siskiyou and here: http://siskiyouband.com/sounds/ ] x

Tindersticks II is so, so good! I can't wait for the gig next week :) Also, I thought you might find this interesting: http://www.park.nl/park_cms/public/index.php?thisarticle=118 Great to listen to when you've got the urge for something haunting and slow, and just a really interesting idea, I'd like to hear it applied to other pieces too...

I forgot to pre-order the JN album, complete mess up there. Tindersticks... I currently feel about them how I felt about Low before I had any of their albums, in that I know I love them, I just need to start getting their discography (what should I be looking for first?). Seeing them at Manchester Cathedral sounds great (even if the tickets are a little pricey), I'm actually going to be up there for Youthmovies the day after (fancy that one yourself?), so I can just extend the trip! x

Twitter is stupid so I can't DM you back, or tweet at you because 140 characters is a silly amount, but here is what I was going to say about World Sick: oh my, that is quite something! And strangely enough, I think it's the coda that I adore most about it... [unnecessary reply, but I wasn't going to let twitter defeat me even when what I wrote was barely periphrastic]

I have tried some Jesu before, and I'm a bit undecided on them... some aspects of the music are great, but the, as you put it, "heaviosity" of it doesn't always appeal, with that kind of thing I really need to be in the mood for it or it just grates on me... I had a complete aversion to that sort of sound for years, but I'm gradually warming towards it in some forms, trying Jesu again might be a good route into it though!

yeah, I've felt like that as well at times, but I don't let the stats take hold of what I'm going to listen to any more and just let them document rather than influence. And yeah, accuracy isn't something it really gives either for me, I've had it in use quite consistently, but I still listen to lots on CD and don't have my mp3 player linked up either, if anything last.fm just records more of my not-so-good listening habits, but it's a handy general picture I find. x

i probably spent a fair bit of the gig staring at the back of your head then. I saw him a year ago just after A&E came out with a full band, was loads of fun. When I saw him back in 2005 though he was painfully shy, he's obviously gotten a bit more confidence these days.

RE: Killswitch. I have their albums, never really listened to them since i left my skater phase (around 2002-ish) Only one thing can explain your presence on my neighbours list. and that's brilliance. congrats.
