Homie this site's big selling point was it's social aspect, now it feels kinda like a ghost town. In order to bring back Last FM's former comfiness you need to bring back groups and journals. You'll probably have to kill editorial to make this happen. That's fine, there are enough tastemakers writing about music on the internet, but if you invest in the social aspects you can probably regain your niche and the audience lost to RYM.
Why were journals removed? – although I wasn't around for them, I've stumbled across a handful of users archived journal entries and it seems like it was such a interactive & interesting feature. I know people who use their own shoutbox to post journal-like entries, but it would be so much more practical to have a journal feature for them to post their latest music discovery/journey, or look back on their old thoughts and interests. I'm not sure why this feature was removed from the site, but I can't think of any good reasons why it may have been. Hope to hear from you :-)
Re: this thread - groups, but also last.fm pro. What happened there?
Re: the thread below - fwiw, i listen to a bunch of different kinds of music & the recommendations are pretty good imo - better than spotify by a long shot. i don't get the same sense that artists pay for their spot in the 'similar artist' tag on last.fm, & personally, i really appreciate that. i've found this to be largely true, even more the more obscure artists.
thanks for keeping the lights on around here.
No offense but your recommendations purely suck. And there is nothing..absolutely nothing coming from the metal genre. Like,= if you recommend artists and albums at least cover all the bases not the extra commercial ones.
I tried to listen to every artist from that article and I can name 20 albums way way way better than what you recommended.
Next time be sure to check albums from metal area as well
sorry for harsh words but here is the thing. Pop music and artists are mostly generic and easily forgetable. For instance I do not know any artist who could make an unforgetable song like Depeche Mode, Metallica did
The commercial music is good for one thing. It SELLS but will never remain in the history
and speaking of metal
Here is an album that kicks ass
Trivium - What the dead men say
loo. i just saw the reply. well that is from your perspective. in my case every trivium album is unforgetabe. and not only trivium but also gojira, behemoth, nightwish etc. stop acting like a know it all trashy bitch
Hype for the new SOHN I take? Well, you have something to look forward to, pleasant stuff.^^ Didn't even know what the red dot meant before clicking here btw, keep up the good (oft unappreciated) work. :)
I've been spinning the promo quite a bit since I got it, I think he may have topped his 1st (but I haven't listened to that in a minute).^^ & ya gotta love General Murray. PS- Not to become a pitch man, but have yall ever considered doing a page that's just a world map, and group scrobbles by country? Ppl might dig seeing how international their tastes are. Just a thought. ;)
