I DID IT POSS! I FINALLY LISTENED TO ALL OF YOUR RECS! It was a really fun journey, but it's only beginning for me. I need to listen to more goth rock and metal and expand my palette even more, but your recommendations were a good and well-curated start. I absolutely LOVED the Big Electric Cat album as well as the London After Midnight one. Others were more hit or miss, but I got something out of them. Thank you so much <33 Hoping you get a black cowboy hat :)) If you would like some recs from me or if you would like to send more recs, I'm all for that. Wishing you well!

wahey!! awesome for you Lain, I'm really glad you enjoyed Big Electric Cat, they really do need more attention - I think Bed of Nails is so, so good. to be real, it's entirely possible some recs were hit or miss because I was recommended things that epitomise the genre To Me -- pleased you found something to suit you among them, and maybe you have some grasp of my taste too, so I'm open to recs any time! and if I find something I think may be a little treat for you, I will definitely let you know. right now, I'm kind of crazy about The Insect God by Monks of Doom (probably very obvious ehjwhkjhed) -- decidedly not goth but one of my favourite Gorey poems, set to cool music! the last section makes me nuts.

I 100% can attest to how good "Bed of Nails" is. True, true. The Insect God had a pretty nice atmosphere! The titular song is probably my favorite since it's pretty progressive. "Who Are The Brain Police?" sounds kind of like Swans at the beginning, but the bright piano is also sweet. Thank you for the rec! I'm in love with Loathe's I Let It In And It Took Everything. Unsure if you heard it but it's one of my favorite albums ever.

Do you have any recommendations for me? I've particularly been trying to get into more goth rock and gothic metal.

yeah, I've got some stuff for you - going to try keep them away from the standard big five of goth because anyone could tell you those. I would really, really, recommend Big Electric Cat - they're really iconically goth like the sisters and bauhaus and such in my brain that I get surprised how relatively unknown they are. the album Fairytales of Slavery by Miranda Sex Garden is very good and I have a soft spot for the album cover because the chick on the cover really looks like me. london after midnight is very theatre kid and fields of the nephilim are as proggy as goth gets which is great for me because i'm a prog rock old man as well. random tracks i like: snake dance by the march violets, gothic erotic by umbra et imago, the virgin queen by sopor aeternicus (transfemme legend), twilight by corpus delecti, death drive by specimen, fatal dawn by this ascension, moya by the southern death cult, flood ii by the sisters of mercy, a day out of time by little nemo, clock by danse society.

second half for gothic metal... I was about to say that I've never really done a frantic deepdive for gothic metal like I have for neofolk or like the time last year i was actually CHEWING on acid bath and nin (a pity i didn't have an account yet!) and it's mostly a randomised playlist for me. I listen to type o negative most regularly which i Know you know from the peter steele vignette. albums Aegis by Theatre of Tragedy (!) and Widow's Weeds by Tristania. some loose tracks: scarlet heavens by katatonia, angel of lust by theatres des vampires, and my father left forever by my dying bride, dionysos by umbra et imago, dawnland by love like blood.

happy pride month to you too ~~. I'm glad you liked them! I think Fairytales is overall great and continues to shine in its lyricless tracks like Freezing and Serial Angels, which is nice because it's easy to fall off in quality at those points. in the mean time I took a gander at Grief Garden, found it easy to get through the entire discography and enjoyed the romantic black metal strain, plus revisited some old GY!BE favourites.

Hey Poss! Sorry for the delay in updates, I just wanted to have enough to report about before messaging you. I listened to all of the gothic metal tracks and albums you wanted me to. The Tristania album took me a bit to adjust to due to the opera vocals but I grew to enjoy it. "Dionysos" was great too. I'll get to more of the goth rock stuff soon but I'm excited to hear it (especially Nephilim)!

nice to hear from you again, lain! I agree, Tristania gets some getting used to: I think gothic metal can be split into two different types - the first is gothic metal that has like a goth rock feeling to it with driving bass and the cold minimalist sound (i see type o like this) and the second is those that are more aurally symphonic metal but they make you think about bats and abandoned churches and all that paraphernalia (Theatre of Tragedy and Tristania are very firmly there for me) - if you have any recs of the first type, do let me know! excited for you to get to Fields of the Nephilim, I spent my whole summer with them last year which is why their sound is so proggy and arid to me, like seeing heatwaves on the horizon. very much the type of goth where the lead singer feels a need to wear a cowboy hat (the sisters of mercy, the mission) which is actually fair - I've also been looking for a black cowboy hat to characterize my summer wardrobe jeknfjjkn.
