hey did you ever listen to that band I shared, 10,000 Blades? I wouldn't expect you to listen to the whole album, but maybe a song or two if you were interested. I go to a fair amount of local shows and most local bands are /okay/ at best, but this one really stood out. Outside of bands my friends are in I've never liked any local music more. They're like Titus Andronicus but less cringe-worthy. Definitely listen to any of the first three songs off that one album if you haven't yet!

It's going away from their post punk sound which was great, but if they are going to sound like an 80's new wave band I am 100% okay with that!

yeah it's totally fine, I listened to the first two songs before I visited the Swans page and saw people complaining about the leak being weak, and then noticed I had the 96kbs one too. I'll probably download a better one later but it's not noticeably bad.

oooh okay, that's very cool. I don't remember what it was but I heard a pop song a while ago that was slowed down like that. I think it might have been Lana Del Ray, but it was beautiful. It was like Boy 1904 slowed down even further.

oooh okay! that's cool. I'm not too musically inclined so I would probably do something similar. I don't know if I ever shared with you Andrew Deutsch? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kv6S0KkITxs in this one album he took parts of a symphony, slowed it down and looped it. Worth listening to if you're interested in working with second hand recordings. I think the whole album is on youtube if you're curious. I wanted mp3's so I bought the physical album because I couldn't find it anywhere.

Your music project is super interesting! It's really bizarre because I don't know of anything that sounds somewhat similar. I'd say the closest thing I can think of is a combination of Gas and Biosphere (if you haven't heard either of those you absolutely need to). I'd be interested to hear more. Also how are you recording/making it? are you creating the sounds yourself or distorting recordings or loops?

I think I'm going to Bonnaroo - I applied for something over the summer which is at the same time, so if I get accepted into that I won't be able to be at Bonnaroo. I'll find out on the first of April! Is the lineup for the pitchfork festival final now? Doesn't look like Indian is going to be there :(

oooh okay! I might download it later on! I don't know if I'm feeling female fronted garage punk at the moment, but I'll listen to it eventually.

that was pretty decent, the vocals were kind of weird. They have a really terrible name though, right? I mean, they're probably going for a bizarre name so people might want to check them out because of it.

yeah! Waxahatchee should be pretty awesome! I see that you're going to the p4k festival???! That's awesome!

that's too bad, I seriously think it's my favorite album I've heard all year so far. Yup, I liked that one a lot better, they remind me of an upbeat Pains and it's not surprising because they are on the same label, I will DL that album!

man really? I thought it's like a heavier Pains of Being Pure at Heart, I love it. Joanna Gruesome?? oh man, that's an awesome pun on Joanna Newsom. It's okay?? I don't know, speaking of TPoBPaH musically it sounds similar but I kind of hate the shouty vocals. Are all their songs like that because the other/different vocals within the song are nice

it's okay, I found one right after I sent that. I'm pretty stoked if that's what you're labeling it as. I liked New Moon more than anything else they did so this one should be great.

It's more mature than Sea Change and it's not outright sad like Guess I'm Doing Fine or Lost Cause were. I like it though, probably will end up being one of my favorite from this year unless a ton of better albums come out. // Do you already have the new The Men album? did it leak already? or is it out already?

I really like it a lot. It's no Sea Change, which is the obvious comparison but it's unique in it's own way. It's a sad record, but not as sad as Sea Change either. Nothing really grabs you as your listening, it's more of an album-album. Time will tell how it stands among everything else but it's probably the best thing he's done since Guero or maybe Sea Change. I was never too big about either of the albums that came after Guero. Also I'm forever upset that "Blue Moon" isn't the Big Star cover. if he wanted a really sad album just cover that song and it makes the whole thing incredibly sad.

yeah, their most recent album (2007, lol) made me appreciate them more because it's more dynamic than anything else they've done. The Tired Sounds Of is very uniform but you start to notice small things in songs and it blows your freaking mind. I listen to that album a lot while reading and I'll suddenly notice how amazing Ballad of Distances Part 2 is for instance, having not really stood out to me at all in the past. Also Avec Laudenum is absolutely flawless, once you're able to appreciate Dust Breeding... holy shit holy shit holy shit!!!

heck yeah!! it totally takes some time too. I had gotten their 2002 album first and it didn't click with me right away, it was just too boring. http://going-to-scranton.tumblr.com/post/2103141075/does-anyone-that-follows-me-listen-to-stars-of-the-lid but then somewhere along the way, after I got everything else they've done, it started to make sense. http://going-to-scranton.tumblr.com/post/13991487778/i-think-i-finally-understand-the-appeal-of-stars

no :( it was super snowy that day last week. I attempted to go but made it like a mile from my house and realized it wasn't gonna happen. All the cars were going like 20 mph and the roads weren't cleared fast enough, plus the trains out of new haven had delays of 45 minutes and if I did make it on one, I might have been late or completely missed the show altogether, so I just ate the $25. They'll put out something next year and tour again, I'm sure of it!

I really liked your review of OPN's new album!! I think his music is so difficult to describe, and you really explained it as simply as you could. I was listening to a song off of it when I was picking up one of my friends and it was playing when he came in my car. He asked me what the heck it was since he really isn't that familiar which too much music. The best description I could think of was "glitch ambient" but I still think that's not a good label for it. Also, what did you mean by cryogenics in his music? I tried looking up what you meant but I didn't really find anything

yeah it's quite nice and I'm going to give Tim a few more plays before checking out Let It Be, give it a chance to be absorbed. The guys I was talking about the other night are Schnittke and Schoenberg. Pick up Neue Wiener Schule: Die Streichquartette (LaSalle Quartett) for a good introduction, and refer to Schnittke's string quartets for later serialism works. Gorecki is also great, and probably more accessible (at least to me)

yeah that's not surprising! I feel like something still goes on with the editors talking to bands and negotiating their scores/bnm for some kind of fee. Also what the heck were/are they doing with Drake? Like it was just awful news about Drake that is so irrelevant. BREAKING: Drake takes a shit. was going to be the next headline, I mean it's ridiculous. also they name dropped Drake in the Touche Amore review, like why?????? I don't know Pitchfork is crazy

that's happened to me especially with local shows. I'm there to support my friends band or whatever, but every other artist/band playing I'll just think about how much I'd rather be somewhere else or how much better this show would be if I was seeing ______ band. You can easily get burnt out with going to so many local shows.

yeah!! I know what that's like when you're not really feeling a genre at a given time. I think it's better than their 2nd album which I thought was pretty damn good to begin with.

Sweet, I'll download their discog pretty soon if those are the only albums they have. I know they're regarded as really influential as far as electronic music goes. I can't say I'm really that experienced in that style, but I'm interested in discovering more of anything as long as it's good music

I've actually never listened to BoC at all, I don't think I could name a single song by them in fact. I've heard really good things about them though, how should I go about looking into them?

Just a similar thing to what was on Reddit, I think someone was claiming on /mu/ to be the guy who had the tape, but it might not have been him at all. I listened to it, and honestly, I can see why the band is against re-releasing it. It didn't seem to have much structure, though part of it did sound alright. Seems to me like the legend and mystery of it all in all probability seriously outweighs the actual music
