Your taste isn't too shabby either ;) The Divorce album is great, love it when band's knock it out of the park with their debut album! Also pleasing to see The Murder Capital keep building too - three albums that are all very decent. I think the new one might be the pick of the bunch.

Hi there, Thanks for the shout back. Wow, you are a long time member on this site from 2005! I started here looking for Smashing Pumpkins years ago and found many artists through the charts, listeners and good friends. Great library you have.

Thank you! ^_^ Yep, I've been here for what feels like forever, I still regret resetting my stats but at that stage you couldn't edit things even as a subscriber. Not sure if you've heard it yet but the new SP album feels like a return to form (at least based on my first listen).

After a few listens, the new SP album is on the right track but no where near the lyrics, depth and texture of Siamese Dream- the high watermark. Drummer Jimmy Chamberlain's work is top shelf. Tracks 1, 8 and 10 are my picks.

I don't think they'll ever reach those levels again but this was definitely an improvement on 'Atum' which I struggled to get through! They're a frustrating band in some respects as I think they're generally better when applying a bit of judicious editing. That's partly why 'Siamese Dream' is so good because they've distilled everything down and just kept the very best bits, Although having said that I do like 'Melon Collie...' and 'Adore' so... ^_^

Always love to see what you are playing as we have such similar taste. Just checked out Ghostwoman and Jane Weaver today- glad I did on both. Notice you haven’t checked out Ceramic. Not a ton out, but “Suede” and “Velvet on The Bar” are particularly good. Worth a listen.

Thank you so much! You have excellent taste too, will have to dig into your library a bit later as there's a few unfamiliar names! I'm also quite envious that you're getting to see Sprints soon. Their debut album is ace and I bet they're a ferocious live prospect. The Wave Pictures have quite a sprawling discography (as you'll discover). Their 'proper' debut (Instant Coffee Baby) is definitely my favourite release by them so be sure to check that one out ^_^

I wish I could get to more gigs but (lack of) £'s and minimal public transport options normally act as a deterrent. It's probably for the best as between that and buying so many records/CD's it's a small wonder I'm not bankrupt. Are you looking forward to the next part of the SFA reissue series (Phantom Power) and some sweet new rarities? I'm such a sucker for back-catalogue. What are the haps from the U-S-A :P

It took me a while to warm to the Gaz Coombes solo stuff but his latest album is one of my favourites from this year. My favourite Supergrass album is probably a toss up between 'In It for the Money' and the self-titled - all the albums have their moments but those two are the most consistent. Will have a think on recs. but the new Girl Ray album is Rough Trade's album of the month and I suspect you might enjoy it. I was a big fan of their debut, wasn't so keen on their follow-up and this one (Prestige) is like a cross between the two. It might just be the case that the transition between albums felt less jarring this time.

Hey! Hey! Glad to hear from you! ^_^ This week I've mostly been listening to Talking Heads, Television and the Buzzcocks (so nothing especially 'new' haha!). However... I'd also recommend the new albums from H. Hawkline and Feist (the latter is definitely an AOTY contender along with the boygenius debut). Have you heard Aldous Harding's 'Warm Chris' album from last year? What are the haps Stateside? How are you?
Actions

as to you! i’ve been meaning to listen to those 3 artists more LMAO. h. hawkline, feist, & aldous harding are definitely new names to me… i have yet to listen to the new boygenius which is absolutely CRIMINAL. listened to a few h. hawkline songs & i’m totally digging it! hearing the saxophone in them had me absolutely beaming. i’ll get back to you once i listen to warm chris. nothing much has happened lately… although i did visit the grand canyon last weekend & got tickets to see tears for fears in early august. their new record is great! totally getting happier as the sun starts to shine a little bit more. what about you?

Haha! CRIMINAL might be a bit strong but it's definiely something you need to rectify asap! I sometimes find the fan culture around Baker/Bridgers/Dacus a bit *intense* so I wasn't expecting the album to be as good as it is! H. Hawkline's latest is produced by Cate Le Bon so there are quite a few similarities in their sound, he's also been supporting Aldous and playing in her live band (he used to date both of them - not at the same time!). I've not been up to that much since we last spoke, just the usual TV watching and listening. I bet the Grand Canyon trip was amazing! I really hope I get to go to the U.S. again someday. My brother-in-law and his wife live in Bloomington, IN and we also went to Chicago when we visited. I scooped up so many second-hand Spoon and Superchunk albums which have been long out of print.

pfft, i totally get it. i’ve heard snippets of songs here & there & it seems like a solid record! those 3 are just awesome. cate le bon is another name i’ve heard around but haven’t gotten that far into investigating. (that’s something that needs to change soon! :P) i also happen to have family in indiana & may or may not be meeting up with them in chicago this summer, would you happen to the remember the name of the place(s?) where you got the albums? 👀 can never pass up the opportunity to do some good crate digging

Oooh you've got plenty to look forward to re: Cate Le Bon. She's got a super discography - I think 'Mug Museum' is my favourite and it's probably her most accessible album. The store in Chicago was one of the branches of 'Reckless Records' - it had a good selection of new and used stuff and the prices were pretty reasonable. Another new album to check out is the new one from Heather Woods Broderick - I've only played it once but it's seriously good! I first heard her when she was singing backing vox and playing keys in Sharon Van Etten's live band. Loving your new avatar by the way! ^_^

Realistically I think finishing in the top 4 is probably the best we can expect given the strength in depth that City, Liverpool and Chelsea have. However, Arteta has shown himself to be a very canny operator so we might end up surprising some people - particularly if the midfield provide a few more goals (at the minute we're overly reliant on Auba!). I think City will probably win the league this season but it'll be very close. Not sure on who's likely to be relegated but suspect the same teams who struggled last year will find themselves in the same situation. Feels very odd to be starting the season without the fans in attendance and the original plan to have limited attendance by October now seems unlikely given yesterday's news :(

I also forgot to say that J is now playing for a local Under 7's team. Their season hasn't started yet but he's been enjoying training. He seems to like playing in goal as well as being a defender (although the Coach had to tell him to cut down on the number of slide tackles he was attempting!).

I still feel a bit conflicted about it returning to be honest but it seems like a necessary compromise at this stage particularly with so many clubs taking a huge financial hit. I've been watching lots of the Bundesliga with Jack (though tbh he doesn't have the patience to watch a full 90 minutes) and it is strange without the fans but the quality has been very high. The Premier League is due to return on the 17th - first game is against Manchester City *gulp*. Hope you're well x

Anders Limpar to Everton, Cesc Fabregas to Chelsea (admittedly from Barcelona), Bacary Sagna to Manchester City and RVP to Manchester United were the hardest ones to take for me. On the plus side maybe there's less chance of Auba going to Chelsea as it looks like they're on the verge of signing Timo Werner from RB Leipzig. It's not quite so bad when the player moves to a different league!

The same could be said about several bands of that era with a similar atmospheric sound (as well as the Bunnymen, of course <3 ) ... and all 20/25 years before Interpol. Maybe a couple of unfamiliar ones for you? :-) Also see: The Wild Swans (simply wonderful!); The Chameleons (timeless and epic... and I rarely use that word!); The Comsat Angels (so atmospheric); Sad Lovers & Giants; Wah! Heat; ... and from down under The Triffids, The Church, The Chills, ... etc. So much brilliant work! Despite some tinny 80s production here and there, most of it has stood the test of time. x

I think people who voted for it were sold a lie and have this odd rose tinted/nostalgic vision of the UK that doesn't tally with reality. Giving up the right to free movement seems remarkably stupid. Sadly the opposition to the government seem willing to let it happen when really they should be asking some very serious questions about the legality of the vote itself and the potential damaging impact on the economy.

I'm not sure tbh, I think a 'no deal' is looming though. I think the government have over-estimated their hand in the negotiations with the EU and are making themselves look a bit silly. Either way I feel a bit hopeless about the whole situation as it's out of the hands of sensible people, the government are totally inept and there's no guarantee that the opposition would try and reverse things.
