About Lovelyville, I should mention that the album proper ends with the song, Nothing Solid. Everything afterwards is a bunch of bonus tracks, collectively called "The Crowded Diaper". They're pretty hilarious, but I think they end up detracting from the album.

:) Haha, I'm glad you like the stuff I like. And I'm really glad I got someone really into the Thinking Fellers. The obscurity to greatness ratio is way unbalanced, more people need to listen to them. Regarding the albums, Mother of All Saints does have sort of a weakness: the grouping of the "feller filler" in the second half. It usually drives people away from the album. But I love it, it kind of represents the unraveling of sanity or something. And then it builds back up to this incredible climax of 1" Tall ---> Raymond H. ---> Cistern. I recommend reading Cistern's lyrics next time, that song really ties the album together.

What do you think of the other Thinking Fellers albums? I think you'll find that Cup of Dreams' orgasm moment is actually an exception to their sound, rather than the rule. My favorite will always be Mother of All Saints. I own it on vinyl, and it blows my mind every time.

That's excellent, I'm glad you liked it! But yeah, that's why I recommend you watch it in English first, then Japanese. One of FLCL's strengths is its replay value. You always find something new each time you watch through it. And you understand the story and its surprising depth a little more each time.

Yes, Cup of Dreams is amazing. I don't think they have too many other songs as straightforwardly beautiful as that. Most of them are kind of super fucked up sounding, and the beauty is hidden deep underneath. And yes, I'm familiar with the Mother series. Its amazing music is part of the reason why I got into music at all. The first album I ever bought was technically the Mother 3 soundtrack.

Yeah, it was only after I started listening to them that I found out they were an influence on Animal Collective and admired by Pavement.

Strangers From the Universe is one of my least favorite albums of theirs, but it contains The Operation, which might be my favorite song. Take that as you will.
