yeah, the jagr move is kind of weird from a flyer's standpoint as well. We get rid of locker room poison in Richards and Carter and then go pick up some more of it in Jagr. It will be interesting to see if he even has a full season in him anyway. I just hope he is able to still play a puck possession game and fill Leino's spot on the line with briere and hartnell.

im kinda looking forward to Nov.5th when columbus comes to philly. We will know then if there was any truth to the rumor that carter had been banging scotty hartnell's wife. there is no way if he did that scotty will let it stand now that he is wearing another teams jersey. And the pens game is going to be classic too. But all in all, i am really not sure what to expect from this team right now, they could be really good or they could be fighting for the 8th seed.

so............... looking forward to the season, so i can see the brand new philadelphia flyers. What are your thoughts on the blow up and rebuild that happened in one week in philly?

sorry about the pens. i was hoping to see a pens-flyers matchup this year. But you really have to feel good about how well they played without sid and malkin. You'll be back real strong next year.

the word is that the flyers are gonna put blair betts on LTRI and that guerin is going to get less than 1 mil. the holdup is that the flyers want to sign him to a tryout contract (what they hope to see in practice that he hasnt shown for 20 yrs on the ice, i dont know) and he wants a real guaranteed contract. my understanding, from the outside, was that the pens decided not to sign him because they wanted young guys to step up into that roster spot

so, billy guerin has been skating with the flyers at their practice facility, no contract offers have been made yet, but as a pens guy, whats the word on billy g? do the flyers want him? does he have anything left? were his numbers last year a product of playing with crosby and anyone can score 20+ on his line? i don't even know if we have the cap room but i gotta say i'm kinda interested.

we still have the spectrum standing across the street from the center and to tell the truth, im glad its still there, you can still see it and know thats where all these great moments took place and keeping something like that around feels important until we can build some of those memories in the new building. im sure you can identify with that, also having so much magic happen in the igloo. and ashams skill set is similar to rupps but he does provide more speed and skill and you can never have too many grinders and role players, depth is always key when going deep in the playoffs. and there really is something likable about asham too.... maybe its his cool tattoos.....

its gonna be weird for you going to a new arena. are they gonna tear down the old one? im not happy about it but you guys are gonna enjoy aaron asham. he is now on his 4th atlantic division team. kinda weird

everyone knew holmgren had to move gagne, so i guess that shot is value into the basement. he needed to go for the cap room but i agree the move is kinda baffling, the flyers are already super deep at defence anyway. the flyers seem to love dealing with tampa bay, so i guess they figured if they are gonna get ripped off it might as well be with their favorite trade partner. holmgren <3 yzerman

guys like cooke, carcy, hartnell, barnaby, claude lemieux and all the rest are generally good guys away from the rink. they play the role and they all play it well. i personally love the hockey pest they add so much more drama to the game. but then there is avery, really a spoiled jerk everywhere he goes on and off the ice. as far as hartnell goes, he really had one of the worst seasons ive ever seen anyone have at the professional level. the fact that laviolette stuck by him when everyone here was calling for him to cut him, and his redemption song in the playoffs have kind of endeared him to the fans. i dont want him to go anywhere now, almost any time last year i would have given him away to anyone who wouldve taken him, hell i would have sweetened the deal with draft picks, just take him. but now he came out of it and i would like to enjoy the other side of that terrible funk he was in.

i would agree, he definetly got a lot of penalties on his reputation this year that he didnt deserve. as far as avery though, avery is really just a bad guy off the ice and a huge team distraction. with carcy, the team likes him and with a little maturity he could be a top 9 guy, he will never be top 6 as much as i would like him to

when carcy was in phoenix , wayne gretzky said he has 20 goal a year kind of skills but he couldnt trust him enough to give him a regular shift, he was afraid he would do something stupid. i think under a legit nhl coach like laviolette, carcillo is beginning to deserve that regular shift...... and he is so much fun to watch when he is on your team. i really felt like the announcers pinned that loss 2 years ago to the pens in the playoffs on a poorly timed fight by carcy, and i just didnt buy carcy fighting as the cause of the team collapsing.

i would love to see carcillo back, he is so much better than most people realize. Laviolette really reeled him in this year, he plays right on the edge and he does go over sometimes but with proper care and attention he can be a real solid team guy and world class pest with under-rated puck skills. and the fans here love that guy to death, i hope holmgren realizes that and the jody shelly signing is to replace cote and not cote and carcillo.

also, no Queens of the Stone Age?!? given the bands you listen to the most, they would seem like a natural choice you might like.

i would welcome malkin, crosby, orpik or anyone who can help out my team, but until then ill be at the games shouting at them. I like to remind jordan and marc stall that their parents dont love them as much as they love eric. or that Zdeno Chara has a shorter life expectancy due to his gigantism. but i would love all of them if they sign here. i think the animosity between pens and flyers fans comes from the close proximity. i cant stand it when a flyers fan says that when the flyers get knocked out they root for the pens, because they are in the same state. i think that is more reason to dislike the other team. the devils are actually closer to philly but they wouldnt root for them, right? you're a pens fan but we are both hockey fans, and i respect the loyalty thats part of rooting for your home team.

agreed, the ufa d-men raked in the cash in the first day of free agency. over here we are anticipating probably gagne being traded to free up some cap room. then hopefully we will resign carcillo and powe. and maybe make a play at turco or nabby to fix our one glaring weak spot. but i for one think when a guy like leighton takes you within one fluke goal of game 7 in the finals, he deserves another shot. if its not going well at the trade deadline, then make a move for a goalie, but i would like to at least see him play his way out of the starting role. who knows what homer is thinking about the goalie, i know he likes our young guy, backlund a lot too. the pens problem is they have so much money invested in a few guys instead of in depth like they had when they won the cup. they are starting to look like the lightning except with good d, win the cup and then get screwed negotiating with your stars.

goligoski & letang are gonna have to play with your new d-men and thats gonna take some getting used to for the new guys. Martin is super solid and hes gonna be great for you guys. we will see about mihalek, but anyway you look at it your team upgraded big time in the position. But i still think your teams problem is in net, im ok w/ leighton here because hes big & positionly sound and most importantly hes cap friendly, whereas the pens have a similar goalie at a way bigger cap hit. Both are servicable w/ good d in front of them though. you got a really good team there and they will be competing for the cup again, but so will the flyers and devils (assuming they can sign kovy and, get him to buy into their system). its gonna be a great season in the division. i always appreciate discussing hockey and our respective teams intelligently, our dislike of each others teams is a good thing for ongoing rivalry & debate. i know the flyers arent done dealing yet, how bout the pens though?

i dont like crosby's whining mostly because, well lets call it what it is, hes on a division rival and he's the best player in hockey. And i dont dispute that maybe he can get some calls his way by always telling the refs what to look for, the guy does almost everything right on the ice. But when people say he cries...... (regardless of the effectiveness of said crying and that he is far from the only one) they are usually right. i think your teams weak spot is very similar to ours. i dont think highly of fluery, and i get that the pens are commited to him, he is undisputably talented and athletic but he looks and acts like a shaken goalie. i can comfortably place him in that elite class, with osgood, of goaltenders who have cup wins despite their best efforts to sabotage it.

i didnt saw "whatever" or "what ev" to you. i like to think i can do better and i dont know you, but you seem to know a little about the pens (from looking over your argument here) so i think you are also probably above "whatever". and for what its worth, crosby is a crybaby, but so was lindros. they both loved to go crying to the refs as soon as a play was over about how they were interfered with, or pushed over, etc. But crosby is also the best in the game and of course i would welcome him to philly with open arms.
