Glad to find someone with a sense of humour, who gets the joke without me having to put lots of smiley icons at the end of the sentence, just to underline the fact I'm not being serious. Though of course I am ;)

Etta James @ Last: i prefer the katie waissel version [2]. Particularly when she sings it underwater with no breathing apparatus, and no means of escape.

'It's a hard knock life.' This sentiment was first expressed by Annie and later echoed by Jay Z. Few would disagree. Difficult things happen to us all. So too, do fine things. Once it was fashionable to celebrate the good stuff in songs, too. Louis Armstrong, for example, thought to himself, 'What A Wonderful World.' And what would he be thinking to himself this week, assuming he was a) still with us, and b) in your shoes? He'd be even keener to offer a melodic eulogy. I can't promise that the tough times have gone, never to return. But for now, the good ones are rolling in.

No, actually. When I first listened, I thought it was a bit zzzzzz. But, as I've listened more, it seems like a quite natural progression, and like a more mature version of what they've done in the past. The songs are a bit noodly at times, but I think that's part of their charm. The reviews have generally been really great: you should give a listen.
